In this short motivational segment, the speaker shares a recent conversation with a young athlete who has been dealing with months of pain and the prospect of medical imaging. The athlete feels discouraged, fearing that his injury will derail his college‑sport timeline and long‑term plans. The speaker explores the athlete’s expectations, asks what he would do if his original plan fails, and encourages him to consider alternative actions. By validating the athlete’s feelings and prompting him to think about adaptability, the speaker emphasizes that plans can change, but resilience and the willingness to adjust will allow progress. The talk concludes with a reminder that acknowledging uncertainty and staying flexible are key to moving forward.

Good morning, everyone. Here's your Moment of Yes for Tuesday, October 29th. Heading back out to San Diego today. Quick trip though, back on Halloween. So yeah, actually meant to get to this yesterday, which is okay that I didn't, 'cause your Moment of Yes for today is based on a conversation I had with a young athlete yesterday who needs to get kind of an MRI or an X-ray done. Because he's been in a lot of pain for the last three four months, and so he's super discouraged, super frustrated. He's kind of seen his window of opportunity based on his age and college and all that, and you know he's got this grand plan for himself about what he wants to do, and he's looking at the timeline and basically saying, "Hey, this." This isn't gonna work out the way that I want it to work out. And I was like, well, we just— we don't know that. He's like, but based on this. And I was like, well, you know, we don't know that. And so we, we had a lot of conversation around, um, you know, what his expectations are, what his timeline is, um, and, you know, it eventually got to a point where I just said, well, if that doesn't go the way that you want it to go, What will you do about it? And there's a moment of pause, and it was kind of like just giving permission. The greatest fear felt like that, you know, things weren't going according to plan, and those— and not going according to plan really never felt like an option. And so I'm like, okay, so If it doesn't go the way that you want it to go, well, what would you do now? What would you do about it? And again, he paused and he's like, well, I guess I could do this, or I guess I could do this, or I guess I could do that. And I was like, yeah, right, exactly. You would, you would find a way. You would figure out, you would adapt, you would keep going. It might not be the way that you wanted to, and In keeping going, we just don't know what's going to happen as a result. And there's, there's no behind schedule and there's no way it has to be. There's just sort of responding to whatever your path is right now, whatever the need is right now. And that's always changing. And all we can do is change and adapt with it. And so, um, there wasn't like a light bulb moment for him. You know, there wasn't like, oh my gosh, you're so right. There was More of a, yeah, just understanding like, oh, okay, you know, if things don't go as planned, you know, I guess I'll be able to deal with that as well. So that's all I wanted him to feel because it wasn't, again, V plus E equals P, validity or validation of his feelings. I didn't try to invalidate his feelings at all. And I listened to him and I kept saying, is there more to it? And then encouraging, right? Encouraging this idea that, hey, right, whatever happens, you'll be able to deal with it. And knowing progress is the result of that. So there you have it. That's your moment of yes for today, everybody. Have an awesome day.
