AMOY: Ass+U & Me!

A speaker urges you to pick one person you know and drop your assumptions about them. Assumptions filter reality and block people from growing. Approach them fresh, with genuine curiosity, and you might see something new.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your moment of yes for today. So today, I want you to think about assumptions. Assumptions that we make on a daily basis based on the information we have, based on past experiences. And so we take that information and we use that to inform sort of snap decisions and assumptions that we make about people and about situations. And it might even be a person that you've known for a long time. The problem with that is when we make assumptions, it doesn't allow us to actually see truth, to see reality, because we're just basically using past information to basically create a filter for how we're judging the situation. So today, I want to challenge you to think about this idea of assumptions and think about one person or a part of your life. Let's keep it to a person, maybe someone you work with, someone in the family. And think about the assumptions you have made about that person, how they think, what they feel. And instead of today, instead of just living your life through that filter of assumptions you have about that person or that coworker, whoever it is, look at them with fresh eyes. Look at them with new eyes. And actually try to engage them in a way almost as if you have no prior experience with them. Be interested in who they are, their answers, and see if you can just actually be interested in, in what they're thinking about and what they're feeling without taking into account all of the past assumptions you've created for them. Because when we deal with assumptions, we don't give people an opportunity to grow. We don't give them the chance to change, transform, or evolve because we're just holding them in the prior thoughts or beliefs that we had about them in the past. So, look at them with fresh eyes. Get rid of the assumptions for today and see if you can experience them new. See how that affects you and changes your day. That's your moment of yes for today, everyone. Have a wonderful day. Thank you.
