Byron Katie said defense is the first act of war. The speaker argues that when you react defensively to someone, you start a conflict. Instead, pause and ask if the trigger is really them or just your own story about them.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your moment of yes. I heard a quote from Byron Katie recently, and the quote is, defense is the first act of war. Say that one more time. Defense is the first act of war. That was a huge aha statement for me. And before you want to try to go, but what about this, and what about that, and what about this situation? Don't go there. Just stop. And shut up for a second. I say shut up with love. The idea of defending our feelings, defending our emotions, having a defensive reaction to something, I look at that as sort of being that first act of engaging in a conflict. That's the way I'm processing it today. When we get defensive and respond, now we are engaging based on someone or a situation that we feel is sort of attacking us or attacking our peace. So the opportunity is to own those defensive feelings, emotions, thoughts, or whatnot. Own them as our own thoughts and responses and just process them. Process them for ourselves and ask, is it really about the person or the situation that I'm being confronted with? Or is it the beliefs, the stories, the thoughts I have that it's raising in my own consciousness. And if we choose not to respond defensively, then there essentially is no conflict that is going to result. Defense is the first act of war. See how that shows up for you today. Think about it. Would love to hear your feedback as well. Go ahead and post those in response to my blog as well. That is your moment of yes for today, everyone. Have a wonderful day.
