AMOY: From the Darkness

Instead of reaching for your phone when you feel heavy or uncomfortable, sit with the darkness. Feel it fully, understand where it comes from, and meet yourself with kindness rather than distraction.

Hey, good morning everyone. Here's your Moment of Yes for today. It's a little dark, as you can see, a little dark and rainy. I believe this is the first time I've ever done a Moment of Yes where it's been this dark. But so your Moment of Yes for today is— I've been talking a lot about distractions. And especially when it comes to cell phones and things like that, how we've been conditioned to any free time, any downtime, we immediately grab our phone or we distract ourselves. And we probably don't see it as that way, but a lot of times that's what we're doing is we're having idle moments, mindless moments, which we could really turn into mindful moments. But we're moving just into, okay, I want— I need to distract myself. Simulation, stimulation, stimulation. So today I challenge you to sit with the idle moments, even if some of those are dark, even if some of those moments are heavy and not fun to think about. So I'm not asking you to wallow, to wallow in darkness or wallow in sadness. But I am encouraging you to allow yourself to feel it and move through it. And so to be conscious of your thoughts, to be conscious of your feelings, and to move through them without feeling like I need to distract myself or deny them or to just ignore them as quickly as possible. But to actually feel them, to notice them, to ask yourself, you know, what is behind some of the feelings and fears and thoughts and darkness that you have. But just to feel it and move through it and allow yourself to empathize with yourself, to understand yourself, and resisting that temptation to distract and just ignore it. So that's your moment of yes today, is just to move through your day to try to resist the temptation to distract yourself from what you're really feeling. And just to allow yourself to feel and understand, understand your own feelings, your own thoughts, your own fears, and know that you're going to move through it just like we move through everything else. So that's your moment of yes for today, everyone, from, from the darkness. Have a great day.
