AMOY: Game Within the Game!

A tennis tournament showed how every situation has a game within the game: the mental drama, intimidation, and conflict separate from what you actually came to do. You can accept that invitation or decline it. The choice is yours at work, at home, everywhere.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your Moment of Yes for today, Thursday. Got a beautiful morning here. The birds are chirping, the birds are singing. On campus this week, there's a huge amateur tennis tournament taking place all week. So it's been a lot of fun in between, in between teaching and in between sessions to walk around the grounds and walk around the courts and see some really, really good tennis. And there's lots of high drama with it being such a big event. But there's also a lot of high drama going on within the game itself. It's almost like the game within the game. And there's plenty of opportunities and invitations for players to have a lot of altercations, a lot of confrontations with each other, with parents, with officials, with things like that. So it's been really interesting for me to watch how there's really just kind of the mental, the intimidation game within the game when it comes to tennis in particular, but really all sports. And it just got me thinking about just my own life and about work and about the holidays and about just about everything, how there's what's going on and then there's always sort of the game within the game. There's always the invitation. There's always the opportunity to create drama within just whatever is going on, whether it's your work or whether it's a sport or whether it's relationships with the holidays coming up. There's what's going on. There's what's supposed to be going on or what you're actually there for. And then there's the invitation to participate in the game within the game, the drama within the drama. So the question is, do you want to take the bait? Do you want to participate? It's just an invitation. It's not mandatory. So if you get those invitations, feel free to RSVP that you can't make it this year, or you can't make it today, or you can't make it right now. Decide whether or not you want to play the game within the game, or whether you just want to show up for the reason that you're there, to be authentic. to be purposeful, to live your yes. Hopefully that's the choice you'll make, and when you don't make that choice, you'll quickly make that choice next time. That's your Moment of Yes for today, everyone. Have a wonderful day. Thank you.
