AMOY: Just Start It!

If you'd started two weeks ago, you'd be two weeks better. Fear of the time required paralyzes people, but the answer is simple: just start, even in small increments. The AMOY series began as daily discipline and now spans seven months and seven hours of content, proof that modest effort compounds.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your moment of yes for today. There's a John Mayer quote that I saw recently and I'm probably going to butcher it, but that's okay. But essentially he said, 2 weeks ago, if you had started that hobby or project that you're excited about, today you would be 2 weeks better than you were then. And I love that idea because, you know, we— it's so easy to get sort of paralyzed and intimidated by Not starting what we want to do, or a hobby, or a project, because we're so intimidated by how long it's going to take to finish it, or how long it's going to take to get good at it. And, and the simple, obvious, common sense solution for that is, well, you just have to start doing it. And as quickly as time goes by, as we all know, just starting something today, it's going to be no time before you look back and go, wow, A month ago, a week ago, 2 weeks ago, whatever it is, look how much better, look how much fun, look how much progress I've made in this small amount of time. The whole reason for me for starting A Moment of Yes at the beginning of the year was just to have a daily discipline of listening and then sharing what I heard and not knowing how long I was going to be able to keep it up, but just kind of going with inspiration each day. And now we're getting close to the end of July, and that's— it's almost been 7 months of A Moment of Yes. And that's every day for almost 7 months. And so if you're really bored someday, you could go back to January 1st, 2013, this year, and start watching A Moment of Yes to today, and that would be almost 7 hours of footage. Like I said, if you're really, really bored. And so I just, I just look back and go, had I not started A Moment of Yes because I wanted to get it just right or be perfect, I'd probably still be thinking about it and pondering it instead of going, what do I really care about? What am I committed to? What is my authentic expression? And I'm just going to start doing it and I'm going to be committed to it and I'm going to do it a little bit, a little bit, a little bit. And I was just looking at the calendar today. I was like, wow, almost 7 months in. And we've got all these moments of yeses. Now, I don't expect you to watch all of them, but for me personally, I feel like, okay, all right, I'm doing the time. I'm feeling better about it, and it's something that I'm just going to continue to grow and work on. And maybe tomorrow it's something else. So just wanted to share that inspiration with you guys today. If there's something that you're really thinking about and you want to start, just start it. Start it today. 5 minutes, 10 minutes. Whatever it is, but just start it. Well, that's your moment of yes for today, everyone. Have a wonderful day. Start whatever you're going to start.
