In this short spoken‑word piece, the speaker opens with a humorous anecdote about a tripod and a friend named Trinity, then introduces the central metaphor: wishing life worked like a DVR that could record the good moments and fast‑forward through the “commercials” – the frustrating, discouraging parts of daily life. Acknowledging that we cannot actually skip those crummy moments, the speaker urges listeners to stay present during them, to notice what arises, and to ask themselves what they need to learn in those times. By embracing and learning from the uncomfortable moments, the speaker claims we can ultimately experience greater joy and peace and appreciate the next positive experience. The talk concludes with a “moment of yes” – an invitation to adopt this mindset and have a wonderful day.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your moment of yes for today. My tripod— Trinity wasn't convinced that my tripod today was really secure, and she actually said, well, I hope the phone falls so that it cracks and then I can have it. Oh, my God. Thank you, sweetie. Your moment of yes for today is, wouldn't it be great if life was like your DVR box for your TV? Where you could just kind of record the best stuff, come back to it, and just watch it whenever you wanted to. And of course, the best thing yet would be fast-forwarding through commercials. Wouldn't it be awesome if we could fast-forward through all of the annoying, frustrating parts of our life and just always fast-forward to the good stuff? Wouldn't that be great? But we can't. And so your moment of yes for today is instead of— since we can't fast-forward through the crummy things in our life, through the crummy moments of our day when we're impatient, when we're frustrated, when we're discouraged, instead of trying to fast-forward through them, just be present in them. Just notice them. Instead of trying to get out of them, notice what is showing up while you are in it. And there's a good chance what's showing up while you are in your commercial moments of your day are exactly the things that are preventing you from feeling a greater sense of joy and peace throughout your entire day, if not your entire life. So instead of trying to fast-forward through the crummy parts of our day, be present with them. And again, ask yourself that question, what am I learning right now? Or what do I need to learn right now? And see what happens. See what shows up. Instead of fast-forwarding through it— instead of fast-forwarding through it— really? I'm not recutting this, people. Instead of fast-forwarding through them, be present with them. Learn from it, and before you know it, you'll be enjoying that next thing that comes along. That's your moment of yes for today, everyone. Have a wonderful day.
