AMOY: Ride the Wave

A father reflects on his son's 8th birthday and a radio full of uplifting songs to explain how positive thinking works. He argues that good and bad thoughts are always there, but connecting positive ones together creates momentum, like riding a wave. Choose the wave deliberately.

Good morning. Here is your moment of yes. It's Saturday. Doesn't mean we take the weekend off. And I have to say, today is January 12th. It is the birthday of my son. Holland turns 8 today. He is our little Muppety man and just a wonderful, wonderful day celebrating his birthday today. And as I was out this morning running some errands for him, I typically, when I drive around, I try not to listen to the radio, especially in the morning. Because that can be great listening, prayer, meditation time. I recommend that as you do that driving that your eyes are open. Just a little tidbit from me. But as I was driving around today and doing some listening, I decided to listen to the radio. And every song that hit me on the radio this morning was almost like it was intentionally giving me a boost. You know, from Philip Phillips to Fun to U2, even Pink, sad to say. All of the songs had a very sort of uplifting yes message to it this morning. And so my— the idea that hit me is this idea of connecting the dots. We talk about connecting the dots. I say it's about connecting the thoughts and riding the wave. You know, I think sometimes we think that if we have negative thoughts or yucky thoughts, for lack of a better word, that our goal is to get rid of those. And I'm not so sure that's the case. Just as we try to connect dots on a picture, I think the good, the bad, the negative, they're all there. But it's how we choose which ones we choose. Do we choose to connect good thought to good thought to good thought? And when we do that, we almost create this momentum, this wave of positivity. It makes it a lot easier to choose the next positive or good thought compared to getting on another wave of negativity where we're just connecting bad thought to bad thought to bad thought. In reality, all of the thoughts are there all the time. The good, the bad, and the ugly. But are you consciously— are we consciously choosing to connect the dots? And when we start to build that momentum, we really start to see and feel the change. And the more we gain, the easier it is to almost subconsciously choose and start to see the good instead of choosing and selecting the bad. The choice is always there. So ride the wave, ride that wave of good, of positivity today. Keep connecting the dots of yes. Have a great weekend, everyone. That is your moment of yes.
