AMOY: Rise To The Surface

Take five minutes alone, no distractions, and watch what thoughts keep coming back. Sit with them instead of pushing them away. That's how you find what actually matters and what to do next.

Good morning. Happy Sunday, everyone. Here's your moment of yes for today. You know, one of the downfalls of never taking time for ourselves to just be quiet, to be silent, to listen, to reflect is that we don't actually notice the most important thoughts or beliefs that are really sort of driving us at any given moment. We don't notice them. We don't allow them to come to the surface. But when we take moments of silence, of quiet, of listening, of making sure that we can be present without needing to be distracted. I've talked about not needing to stand in the Starbucks line and pull out your iPhone to distract you, not needing to be entertained while you're doing the dishes. Just— and for me, yesterday I went for a run. And when I go for a run, I never listen to music. I never listen to anything. I want that to be an alone time, which is a rare opportunity to just be alone with myself, with my thoughts, with nothing else going on to distract me except my own thoughts. So during that time, I like to just notice what rises to the surface. And then I notice it, and then if yesterday is an example, it became clear to me that something that I've been thinking about is really so important to me right now that it would not allow me to think about anything else. I would notice it, I would let it go, I would release and surrender, and then it would come right back. And so I was like, huh, this is an interesting cue. This is much more meaningful to me than I thought it was initially. And so instead of trying to get rid of it or distract myself with something else, I just sat in it and listened through it and really asked myself, You know, what are the next steps? What do I need to learn from this? You know, what is my sense of peace with this? And so find those times during your day to be distraction-free, even if just for 5 minutes a day, and notice what rises to the surface. That's your moment of yes for today, everyone. Have a wonderful, wonderful day. Thank you.
