AMOY: The Chosen One!

A master tells cynical monks that one of them is the chosen one without saying who. Uncertain, they start treating each other and their community with such kindness and respect that the temple thrives again. The lesson: act as if you and everyone around you might be chosen.
Chapters
Good morning, everyone. Here's your Moment of Yes for Friday. Hope you're having a great day. So I can't remember the book. It's one of my favorite stories though, one of my favorite parables. And it hit me this morning, so I wanted to share it with you guys. And it's about this village, this town, and there's a temple in the town that's really kind of like the heartbeat of the community. And everybody comes, and it's a real thriving temple, and there's a lot of inspiration. And there's a group of monks sort of that run it. But over the years, over, you know, a few decades, people from the town keep coming less and less. And the monks themselves become more cynical about the village people and about each other. And they become a little bit cold and rigid. And it gets to the point where the temple is falling apart. No one's coming really outside of the monks. And They just don't know what to do. They don't know why the townspeople have gone the way that they've gone. And they're just concerned that the temple is just not going to make it. So they find sort of a master in a couple villages away. And they invite him to come to their temple to help them decide what needs to be done to save the temple. So they go and they find this master. And they bring him back. And he's meeting with the monks. And as he looks around all the monks, he just quietly says— he looks at them and says, one of you is the chosen one. And they're like blown away by it. And the master leaves and goes back to his village. So over the next few weeks, over the next few months, the monks all look at each other as if one of them is the chosen one, but they don't know who. So they start to treat each of the monks as if they're the chosen one because they're not sure if If that's the chosen one or not. And they're not sure if they're the chosen one or not. So they start to have to act differently and act better and treat people better. And they start to treat all the townspeople as if they're the master. And how would they treat them if they are the chosen one? And slowly over time, people start coming back to the temple because they're so amazed at how these monks are treating them. And the monks are amazed at how the other monks are treating them. And they're holding themselves and acting so much better because they're— if they're the chosen one, they need to behave like it. And over years and over time, that temple becomes a thriving part of that community again. And they're never really sure, are they the chosen one or aren't they? That is your moment of yes for today, whatever that means to you. Take that into today and have a wonderful, wonderful weekend. Take care.
