AMOY: Topless Friday!

Every head is a world, the speaker says, meaning each person carries a hidden narrative that shapes how they act. Empathy isn't agreement. It's setting aside your own agenda, not taking things personally, and seeing from someone else's point of view.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your moment of yes for today. Topless Friday. It's the best I could come up with. I was actually going to shoot this video topless, but Hollister thought that was really inappropriate and really embarrassing to her. So thus the shirt. So your moment of yes for today, Topless Friday, which has nothing to do with empathy. But if I'd put empathy in the title, maybe you wouldn't be listening right now. So hopefully you'll keep listening anyway. So this week, empathy is a quality that I've been working with our different students and student athletes during the week. And there's a quote that I love, I think it's an old proverb that says, every head is a world. And what I love about that, what that says to me is that inside every head, inside of each of our heads, all of our thoughts, our stories, and our perceptions create a totally unique Perspective for each of us. How we see the world and how we see life is totally individual and unique to each of us. And so as we go through our day, we see people, we see how they act, we see how they respond, we see the things that they do, and sometimes we're like, that just doesn't make sense. Why are they doing that? Why are they treating us this way? When in fact, we have no idea what their world looks like inside of their head and in their life. We have no idea what difficult things might be going on, what they might be dealing with. And so, so the quality or the skill of empathy is just being able to not take things personally, put your agenda aside, and just be willing to look at things from someone else's point of view, to understand where they're coming from and how they're feeling. Not necessarily agree with them, but to understand. And if we're willing to put our agenda aside long enough to understand, How someone else is doing or where they're coming from, there's a better chance we're going to have a more respectful relationship with them. So your moment of yes for today is empathy. Can you go through today not taking things personally, but really seeking to understand where someone else is coming from, how they're feeling, and what their world looks like inside their head? That's your moment of yes for today. I take my now. Okay. Have a good one.
