AMOY: Turn It Around!

A daily practice called the "moment of yes" flips snap judgments about others back to yourself. When you think someone is rude, ask if you're the rude one. The exercise reveals how much you're projecting your own traits onto people around you.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your moment of yes for today. Your moment of yes for today is to challenge the beliefs, the thoughts, the judgments, those snap judgments that we catch ourselves making throughout the day. For example, you are driving to work and you see someone do something and you think to yourself, wow, they are so impatient. Or you're at work and you see a coworker do something and you, you have the thought, wow, they are so rude. I'm going to challenge you today just to try this. Try this on. When you catch yourself making a judgment statement about someone or something, for example, wow, they are so rude, notice it, quickly turn it around, just say, wow, I am so rude, or wow, I am so impatient. Or, I'm so close-minded. And just do that switch. Switch the statement from they are to I am and just sit with it and go, which of those statements feels more true? And it might mean that you're totally noticing someone acting out in a way that you never act, but maybe they're just acting out in a way That resonates with a part of you that you really dislike in yourself. And so when you can do that switch from, wow, they are so impatient, they are so close-minded, whatever it is, to I am, you can, you can notice, wow, is this more true for myself? And is that why this is bugging me? And then you can release the judgment for them and then just turn it on yourself, own it, take responsibility and accountability for it. And then release it from yourself. But it's a great way to take power and take ownership from thinking that it's really about the people outside of ourselves, when often it's just us that we are seeing in others. Is that confusing? I don't know. Give it a try today. Notice those thoughts, switch them around, claim them, and just sit with it. Which of those statements feels more true? They are Or I am. Just have fun with it today. That's your moment of yes. Have a wonderful day, everyone. Bye.
