An improviser explains how choosing one clear objective for the day—a goal or emotional stance—helps you respond authentically to whatever happens. Pause for a few seconds each morning and decide: will you encourage people, be compassionate, or something else. That choice shapes how you show up.

Good morning. Here is your moment of yes. So as you go throughout the day, what's your objective? In improvisation, one of the things we teach beginning improvisers is when you step on stage, even if you don't know what's going on or you don't know what the scene is going to be about, have an objective. An objective might be something that you're trying to achieve, and it also might just be an emotional choice. And so stepping on stage, making that choice ahead of time gives you the ability to respond authentically to whatever is going on. So if my objective is to be encouraging, well, no matter what's going on on stage, my character can make choices that encourage the other actors or encourage the activity in the scene. If my objective is to be negative, Same thing. It gives me something to draw from. It gives me something to respond to. So as we go through our day, as we go through life, right now for today, stop, take 5 seconds, take a few seconds and ask yourself, what is your objective for today? How are you going to respond to every situation that comes to you throughout today, good or bad? What is going to be the lens in which you look through The world? What's going to be the lens? How are you going to respond? If your objective today is to make others feel better, that's going to cause one set of responses. If your objective today is to be compassionate, hopefully not a negative objective, but as you carry that, that now you carry that and you're looking for that as you go from situation to situation. So today, what is your objective? What are you trying to achieve as you go throughout your day? That is your moment of yes. Have a wonderful day achieving that objective. Take care.
