AMOY: Where Are You Spending Your Time?

The speaker argues that dwelling on past regrets or future worries drains your well-being. Memories and plans matter, but only when they serve what you're doing right now. The present moment is the only one you actually live in.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your Moment of Yes for today, Saturday. Howdy. So, all of us have part of our brain, part of our thoughts that spends our thinking time, a portion of that in the past, a portion in the present, and a portion in the future. It sort of is what makes us human. We have memories that we think about. We have our perception or our hopes or Or fears of the future that we project out, we plan for. And then we have actually the present, which is what is actually happening right now in this moment. Now, to try to, as a human being, get ourselves to ignore spending time thinking about the future and planning, or to ignore spending time thinking about memories from the past, I'm not sure how realistic that is. But to the extent in which we are able to focus our time in the present, And deciding what we are doing with those thoughts of the past and the thoughts of the future. So are we dwelling on the past? Are we perpetuating old stories from the past? Or are we remembering them with fond eyes? Or remembering or thinking about the stories of what we learned from those experiences to help us with where we are now? In regards to the future, are we just being nervous about the future, anxious about the future? Fearful about what we think might happen or we want to happen or we don't want to happen, and we're spending so much time obsessing about what will be or what might be. Well, that's not helpful either. Again, doing some planning, planning a day, planning a week, planning a budget, all that very helpful. But are we spending too much time there? And how is that helping us with where we are right now in the present moment? To the extent in which we are able to keep our focus as much as possible on the present moment is where our peace will be. Yes, we need to plan. Yes, we need to remember, but only if it is serving us in this present moment. And when it comes down to it, no matter what we've planned and no matter what has happened in the past, there's nothing more important than what's going on right now, because what is going on right now is is all that is ever going on, the present. That's your moment of yes for today, everyone. Have a wonderful day.
