The Truman Show is a metaphor for how society keeps you small with warnings about danger and messages that you already have everything you need. The speaker asks what beliefs and fears are holding you back from growth, travel, and risk, and pushes you toward what they call a moment of yes.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your Moment of Yes for today. Hopefully you guys had a great weekend. It's Monday. We are back at it. As I was doing my morning listening today, I got thinking for some reason about the movie The Truman Show with Jim Carrey. A great movie to watch again if you haven't watched it in a while. I haven't watched it in a couple months, but it came to me this morning. And the idea that in order to kind of preserve the artificial world they had created for Jim Carrey, they had to keep him in one place. And so I love sort of the— as they show through his childhood and even as an adult how they were able to keep him where he was without wanting to leave home. They flash back to scenes of him in school where the teachers talk about how everything they would ever need is right there and how unsafe it was outside of their hometown and how unsafe travel was. Therefore, there's no desire to travel. And every time he talks to someone about Going somewhere else, they tell him how ridiculous it is and how it's not safe and everything you need is right here. And I just love being able to see it in that light, how obvious it is to us as the viewer. But then we have to think, what messages, what subtle messages, what not so subtle messages, what beliefs have we grown up with? Are we believing right now? Are being reinforced to us every day that try to keep us— Where we are, being the person that we are, living the life that we are. And from a sense of limitation, not from a sense of abundance, freedom, and living your yes, living your purpose. So we are surrounded by those all of the time. They're maybe not so humorous or blatant as in The Truman Show, but those messages are around us all the time, every day, all day. So stop and ask yourself, what fears, what beliefs, what stories are keeping you where you are when your inner voice, love, is desiring, is encouraging you out of your shell? So think about that today. That's your moment of yes. Have a wonderful day, everyone. Thank you.
