In improv, your job is to make your partner look brilliant. Stay present, use yes-and, and focus on what they're doing instead of worrying about yourself. When both performers do this, the scene gets better for everyone.

In improvisation, we have a mantra. In improv, we have a mantra. Every time I step on stage, my goal is to make my partner look brilliant. What is their focus? To make you look brilliant. To make me look brilliant. How cool is that? So am I, am I thinking about myself? How am I going to look? What are my needs? Getting in my head and overthinking, overthinking? No, I've got to focus on my partner. Because if I'm not focused on them, I'm gonna miss what they're doing and I can't support them if I'm too focused on me. So the lights come up, we're doing improv, it's vulnerable, it's scary. Whatever they're doing, I'm focused on them and trying to yes and or collaborate with them because what are they doing? They're yes anding and collaborating with me. When we bring that mindset, so what we're creating is collaborative, we're creating it together. We both own it, and so to the extent that I make them look good and they make me look good, we both look good.
