Masks or More Authenticity?

We wear masks daily like Halloween costumes, hiding a deeper hunger for authenticity and purpose. The speaker compares this to The Truman Show, where Truman senses something false in his artificial world and can't stop seeking truth. Once you glimpse real authenticity, there's no going back.

Halloween is quickly approaching, and it reminds me of all the masks, disguises, and costumes we enjoy getting dressed up in to celebrate the night. But Halloween is a symbol of what a lot of us feel all the time, and there's a good bet you feel it too. On the outside, most of us appear to like the same things: clothing, food, entertainment, stuff. I like to dress up. But inside, many of us feel conflicted. Sure, on the outside we all know how to smile and go along with the status quo. But inside, there's the longing for something richer, more soulful, something authentic and purposeful. I call that your YES, your Excellent Self. Recently, my kids wanted to watch the Jim Carrey movie, The Truman Show. It's a great movie with a relevant message. but not a movie I have thought about too much over the years. You see, Truman is the focus and star of an entire world, an artificial environment created to literally revolve around him. Everyone in his life is an actor, even his best friend and wife. The only person who doesn't know that it is all fake is Truman. On the outside, Truman is a responsible, good citizen, charming, and an overall pleasant human being. But underneath the facade, Truman knows that something is not right. He is longing for truth, but he doesn't know what it is. He is striving for adventure despite an environment that has trained him to stay afraid. He longs for connection and meaning, but is met with consumerism and distraction. As his curiosity grows, so does the resistance that is designed to prevent his growth. The more he learns and discovers, the more aggressive the attempts to hold him back. He doesn't know exactly what he wants or is physically looking for because it is not material, extrinsic, or some thing to possess. No, what he is really looking for is purpose and authenticity. And despite what appears to be an entire world conspiring to keep him in the illusion, They are no match for a man who has caught a glimpse of truth, who has felt truly awake and conscious for the first time. When you feel that spark, even if just for an instant, there is no turning back. So the question is, what does your journey of authenticity look like? And what are you doing about it? In case I don't see ya. Good afternoon, good evening, and good night. Go ahead and inspire others in the comments below.
