How to Set Restaurant App Hours and Holiday Closures (Per Diem)

Set your restaurant's app hours and holiday closures in Per Diem by syncing from Square POS or entering manually, then use special-day overrides to handle holidays and unexpected closures. Your configured hours show in real-time across the app, web, pickup, and delivery channels, and the system can offer future-order scheduling when you're closed.

When are you open? It sounds simple, but it's one of the most important things your customers need to know. Business hours and special day overrides decide exactly when people see your store as open and can place an order. Let's walk through both. Start with business hours. These set your regular weekly schedule, the hours your location is open for ordering. They control when customers can place orders through your mobile app and web ordering site. You can sync them straight from your Square POS or manage them manually right inside the Per Diem dashboard. If you sync and you update your hours in Square, Per Diem reflects the change automatically. And every location you run can have its own schedule. Then there are special day overrides for the days your regular schedule just doesn't apply. Holidays, unexpected closures, private events, any one-off situation. When you set an override, you pick the date, choose whether the location is open or closed, setting custom hours if it's open, and select which locations it applies to. Overrides take priority over your weekly schedule and over any synced hours right up until the date passes. Setting them up is quick. 1. Go to Operations, then Business Hours in your dashboard. You'll see a block for each location. 2. For your regular hours, either toggle "Use Square Business Hours" onto sync, or set the schedule yourself, day by day. 3. For an override, scroll to the "Add special day override" section on the same page. Choose the status, Open or Closed, pick the month and date, select which locations it applies to, and save. Here's how it reaches your customers: Your hours show up in real time on your branded mobile app and web ordering site. Outside business hours, customers can't place an immediate order. The app shows you as closed and, if you've enabled it, offers future order scheduling for whenever you reopen. And when a special day override is active, those override hours take effect everywhere—across pickup, delivery, and curbside, and across every ordering channel, from the app to the web to pay at the table. Everything stays consistent, and there's no confusion about when you're open. That's business hours and special day overrides, the foundation that keeps your open sign accurate everywhere your customers order. Link below to see it live.
