What if customers paid you before they even ordered? StoreCredit is a prepaid balance system that pulls revenue forward, builds loyalty, and smooths out your cash flow. And customers love the convenience. Here's how it helps. StoreCredit shifts revenue forward. When a customer loads credit upfront, you get the cash immediately, and they're highly likely to come back and spend it. Often spending more than their balance. Plans with a bonus—buy $20, get $25 worth—are especially good at driving bulk purchases. And credit builds up naturally too, from gift card redemptions, referrals, promotions, and refunds, which keeps customers inside your ecosystem. So what exactly is store credit? It's a running balance customers load and spend at checkout to to offset their purchases. It accumulates from a few places: your own purchase plans, like $25 for $20, plus referrals and promotions, gift card redemptions, and order refunds. And here's the distinction from gift cards: gift cards are digital cards sold through Square, which convert into store credit when they're redeemed. Store credit is the actual balance a customer spends from at checkout, Setting it up is simple. 1. Go to Store Credit in your dashboard. 2. Create a plan. Name it, set the credit amount and the amount the customer pays, and choose a discount type if you want one. 3. Toggle promotion on to feature that plan on your app's home screen. 4. Upload a custom card image for branding. 5. Save. You can create as many plans as you like, and to control which Square location your reloads post to for reporting, head to Gift Cards Store Credit Reload Location and pick your main location, a selected location, or the customer's selected location. Here's how it shows up: In your mobile app, the Store Credit section appears on the home screen, unless you hide it with the Hide Store Credit from Home Screen toggle. Customers tap in to see their balance, browse your plans, and buy credit. And at checkout, store credit is offered as a payment method. On the web ordering site, it flows through the standard account section and checkout. By default, store credit works for pickup and dine-in. To also allow it for delivery, just toggle on "Allow store credit payment for delivery" under Settings, app features. A couple of limits worth knowing: the maximum single reload is $250, with a custom reload range from $10 up to $2,000, and transaction monitoring may add its own rate limits. That's store credit—upfront revenue, stronger loyalty, and a balance your customers can't wait to spend. Link below to see it live.
