Service Fees, Tax, Tips & Delivery: Full Charge Control (Per Diem)

Per Diem lets you set service fees as flat amounts or percentages tied to fulfillment types, days, and locations. Fees automatically waive when orders hit a threshold you set. The platform also handles tax, tips, and delivery charges all in one place.
The total a customer pays is more than the sum of their cart. Service fees, tax, tips, and delivery fees all factor in, and Perdium gives you precise control over every one.
Let's walk through them.
Start with service fees—charges you add at checkout to help offset operational costs like card processing and platform fees. You control exactly when they apply with a rule engine under Settings, Service Fee, Advanced. Each rule can be a flat dollar amount or a percentage of the subtotal. You tie it to a fulfillment type: Pickup, Delivery, Curbside, Catering Pickup, or Catering Delivery, schedule it by day of week or a specific date, apply it to one location or all of them, and even waive it automatically when an order tops a threshold you set.
You can rename the label per rule too. Convenience fee instead of service fee, and that's exactly what customers see. And rules can stack: a weekend surcharge on top of a delivery fee, for instance. The payoff? Service fees lift your revenue per order without raising menu prices, covering your costs transparently as a clear, separate line. And a waiver threshold, like a free service fee over $50, nudges customers toward bigger orders. Next, tax. Perdium calculates tax using the rates inherited from your Square POS and applies it at checkout. Under Settings Tax, you control a few things: tax exemption per location, the option to hide tax as a separate line—it's still calculated and paid, just not shown—and whether your service charges get taxed. One note: exemptions are per location, not per customer. To exempt a specific customer, like a nonprofit, you'd refund the tax portion in Square after the order. Accurate tax keeps you compliant, and whether you tax service charges is a call for you and your accountant, based on local law. Then there are tips. Under Settings Tips, you can set up to 3 preset options: percentages or fixed amounts, allow a custom tip, and even turn on auto-gratuity above a certain order total. Orders under $10 show whole-dollar options like 1, 2, 3. Orders above $10 show percentages. For delivery, there's an extra layer—Tip Percentage Distribution—found in your delivery provider settings. It splits the customer's tip between the driver and your store staff, so you don't double-pay staff in payroll. By default, the whole tip flows to Square as a staff tip, but set the delivery driver to 100% and the entire tip goes to the courier instead. Tips boost staff income and morale, and that distribution control keeps payroll clean when delivery tips are meant for drivers. Finally, delivery fees—set per location under Operations, Locations: Delivery. You define your delivery radius—that's an eligibility gate, so customers outside it never see delivery as an option—plus a flat fee, a minimum order, a free delivery threshold, and delivery hours separate from pickup. If you use DoorDash, the per-order fee comes from DoorDash's live quote at checkout; your flat fee is just a fallback. And for delivery fees that vary by schedule or location, you use that same Service Fee Rule Engine, with Fulfillment Type set to Delivery, or Catering Delivery for catering orders. Delivery fees offset your fulfillment costs, free delivery thresholds encourage larger orders, and separate catering delivery fees let you price those high-effort orders appropriately. So how does it all come together? At checkout, on both your mobile app and web ordering site, customers see it itemized, line by line: cart subtotal, service fee with your custom label, delivery fee if it applies, tax unless you've hidden it, the tip, and the grand total. Every line, clearly broken out. That transparency builds trust and cuts down on support questions. And the flow is identical on both channels. That's service fees, tax, tips, and delivery fees. Full control over every charge, clearly shown to every customer. Link below to see it live.
