This Is What Loneliness Looks Like When You're Winning

Vicky Samios talks to high earners who've tied their worth to income, showing how it breeds loneliness and burnout. She offers the Identity Decoupling Framework to separate self-worth from earnings and asks the core question: who are you without your title? Her own shift from pharmacist to dentist sparked an identity crisis that taught her to rebuild a self beyond work.

Hi, I'm Vicky Samios. We're going to talk about identity, and your identity is built around providing financially, isn't it, for your family, but you feel invisible, unappreciated, and emotionally alone. This is for the man or woman carrying everything silently. Now, if you think money equals security in a marriage, this is not your video. Today I'm going to show you the hidden cost of over-identifying as the provider and how to lead without burning out or disconnecting. Peter and I use something called the Identity Decoupling Framework, separating self-worth from income. For a lot of you, that's going to be a challenge. When your value equals your provision, every business dip feels like a personal failure, doesn't it? Every complaint from your partner feels like disrespect. You're doing so much and they just can't see it, can they? Look, that was me once. I look back and go, "Wow." If only I had just asked Peter for help. Now, what you're actually doing is working more, spending more time at work, carrying the stress alone, not sharing financial fears, and believing I can't show weakness. You think, hey, I've gotta have this. Now, you need connection. You need to also separate your worth from your income. Your earning capacity does not equate to your worth. Society has it all wrong. I became a dentist not to make money, but I knew I'd have a comfortable life. And now having left dentistry, oh my goodness, I've noticed that there are so many high-performing people who really look at how much they earn and then they feel their worth based on that. And I need you to stop doing that. If you're waiting for the right time, the right time is now. Applyformentorship.com. Now let's get back to the video. Because when you feel valued for who you are, not just what you earn, you relax. And this is to all the men and women. And when you relax, your connection returns. You start smiling, you start taking care of yourself. So the first thing I want you to do is start with, who am I without my title? Now, who are you without your title? Take a moment and answer that question. I really want you to write it down. Because once you stabilize your identity, your business also heightens along with your marriage, and your destabilizing that you're feeling right now actually disappears. Identity is a huge thing. I was in an identity crisis for many years. I just didn't get the right help, and I was— I was— I had invested in mentors, and I really wanted to find out, hey, who Who am I beyond being a dentist, and then before that a pharmacist, and beyond being a mom? Who's the real Vicky? And I want you to ask that question of yourself. Who's the real you beyond what it is you have at work or in your business and that leadership title that you hold? For me, it was doctor, right? As a dentist, doctor. And even looking through now, branding, and I've learned so much about branding and social media. Even looking through that, you think, well, how do I reinvent myself, and who am I right now? You might be asking yourself the same question because you might feel like you've lost yourself. It's time for you to find yourself again. And the moment that clicked for me was not the moment I just went and inserted myself in rooms with people who were doing things that I'm like, wow, I didn't know this was possible, and looking up to them. It was the moment that I truly asked myself that key question I gave you: who are you beyond your title? And many of you would be thinking, hey, I have no idea. And that was me. I'm like, I'm so lost. Well, not now, but I was so lost and I just didn't know where to start. That is the first place to that, because you need to start reconnecting with your hobbies that you had, with relationships that maybe you have just let fizzle. And one of these is probably your marriage. So go and speak really honestly with your husband or wife, and the moment that you actually face the problem is the moment that you will bring it to the surface and start actually solving it. And nothing's ever a problem if you make it a problem. So if you look at it from the perspective of, hey, I'm here to really change my life and to really tackle the thing that's been holding me back, the first person you have to chat with is yourself. This internal dialogue has to be one where you get rid of self-doubt, where you stop diminishing yourself and stop talking so badly to yourself where you believe in yourself and you believe that a better future is here. It is not around the corner, it is here because you depend on it, your marriage depends on it, and your children depend on it. What legacy are you leaving behind? It is not your title. I want to hear your story and I want to make sure that you know you're not alone. Now, for all of you who have really gone, "Oh my gosh, this is me," Here is the solution. Go to applyformentorship.com and my team will get in touch with you. I cannot wait to get to know you and to, to really help you. So if you're really seeking that help with your identity, with yourself, with your marriage, with your relationships, with your life, help is here. You're just one step away. Applyformentorship.com.
