Hey. Hey. Welcome back to Bullpen Sessions. My name is Andy Neary, and this is episode 83. Now, normally on Tuesdays, I'd be interviewing somebody, but today I thought it, I wanted to go on myself as we wrap up a very tumultuous year, and I want to talk to you about some thoughts about the year where you're going to be headed next year. And that's why the topic of this podcast, the title of this podcast is when One door Closes, an Amazing door opens. I need you to really believe that with the turning of this year, turning of this page, ending of this chapter, whatever you want to call it, that there's going to be an equally or a much more amazing door chapter opening for you. It's all about your perspective. Now, if you absolutely blew 2020 out of the water, you kicked its ass, you crushed it. I'm going to tell you, keep your momentum going, right? That's your goal going into next year. But there's a good chance you ended this year not where you thought you would back in February. You had these lofty goals, you set, you were on pace. And then the pandemic, everything just hit and threw your life into a spin. So today I really want to go, hey, this chapter, this door is closing to 2020. And as 2020 opens, I want you to understand that this is going to be amazing year for you have to start with that optimism and that perspective. Now, where is this whole topic coming from? It's going to come from three angles today. Number one started with a conversation I had with a former colleague of mine last week. Then I'm going to share with you how this perspective has applied to my life. It's applied to Amy's life and how it applies to this Bullpen Sessions podcast. I'm excited to share with you some of the changes, what's going to happen in 2021, to really build this podcast the way I wanted to from day one. So let's start with the conversation. Well, last Friday, I received an unexpected call from a former colleague of mine. And he called a couple times Friday morning and I didn't pick up. I saw the no voicemail. I said, eh, maybe, or just reaching out to catch up. I'll call him back later. But when he called a third time, late afternoon, I'm like, okay, maybe it's actually something serious. I should probably pick this up, even though I haven't talked to him in years. And so picked up the phone, spent a couple minutes on, hey, man, long time though. Chad, how are you? Doing. And then he went into the purpose of his call, and he was seeking advice, he was seeking some guidance. And this gentleman went through a recent tragic event, and he lost a loved one. And for anybody out there who has lost a loved one, especially in a year like 2020, I completely empathize with you. Fortunately, I have not gone through that experience this year, but I can only imagine what it's like for those who have. So he was definitely in a state of mind where he was level setting, he was taking a very big step back, looking at his life and looking at where he was going to be headed next. Now, one option is do nothing, right? Even though he lost a loved one, somebody who was very, very close to him, a very, very big part of his future, he could just continue doing whatever he's doing and just spend the rest of his days, you know, living life. There's. There's no wrong answer to that. There's nothing wrong with that. But I could definitely sense he knew it was time for a shift. And so he talked to me about an opportunity that he has on the career side. And as we dove into the conversation, it became very apparent to me that he has to let this chapter close and allow an amazing, an equally amazing or better opportunity to present itself. So the advice I gave him, not to go too in depth as I'm trying to spare him some anonymity here, but he has been presented with a career opportunity that would require a shift in job, potentially a shift in location. And I told him, I said, at this point in time, based on what you've gone through this year, this is your sign that this chapter in your life is coming to an end. And you really cannot make any wrong decision here. But I am going to give you the guidance that in order for this new chapter to unfold, you need to make this move. You need to go for it. Not just the change in job, because he had the opportunity to do it virtually, you need to make the full move, the full relocation and.
More. It was bigger than the job itself, it was bigger than the career itself because he realized, having gone through this tragic, tragic event of a lot of a loved one, the loss of a loved one, that it's time to close a door. It's time to open a new one. And I told him, listen, you have a clear slate right now. You have a new page. You have literally turned the page. It's blank. You get to draw. You get to create whatever the heck you want to create on this page. And with that, there is a Sense of freedom.
And so the advice I gave is, I said go for it. The universe is telling you right now, you need to take this job. You need to relocate to that job where it is located, and you just need to go for it. And I promise you that a year or two years from now, you will look back and you will realize it is the best decision you could ever make. So that's where I'm going to start this guidance to you, the listener, as this door closes this chapter in 2020, you need to understand that next year is going to be a hell of a lot better. And you have that choice. Now you, the house, will have the choice to keep doing what you've always done, which has maybe put you in a rut this year. And you can start 2021 in the same position, same rut, no momentum, and let next year be exactly like this year was. Or you can start with a clean page where you get to create the rest of your future. Now, what is that change that new chapter for you? It could be nothing more than a change in attitude.
Maybe it is a change in job.
But whatever it is, you need to make that change and allow the door that was 2020 to close. Let go of the past. Now, how does this apply to my life? How does it apply to Amy's life? Well, when I Met Amy in 2011.
Before we had ever met each other, we both had the goal of moving out to Colorado. Little did we know, we meet, fall in love, and we both have this goal to find ourselves living permanently someday in Colorado. Now, in 2014, fast forward, when we realized that this could become a reality.
What hit us was the fact that we were both in a stage of our life where it was time to let one chapter close and allow a more beautiful, more amazing chapter to start. A door to open. See, both she and I had spent our entire lives in Wisconsin surrounded by people that we have spent our entire lives around. No offense, love my family, love my friends, but we just realized it was time to start that new chapter. So in May of 2014, we made that decision to make the move. And I'll tell you, six years later, it was the best move we have ever made. Not because we moved away from family, not because we moved away from childhood friends. It allowed us to turn the page, start with a clean page, so we could go about drawing the rest of our lives. And now where I look at where I'm at today, starting a coaching business, building a brand, I would have never, ever done that had I not made this move out to Colorado, looking at where Amy's at today, she would have never morphed in or evolved into the person she is today without us making that move. We had to close a door and allow an equally and more impressive one to open. So I'm telling you to do the same thing. Whether again, it might be just a change in your attitude going into 2021, but it could be a change of job, it could be a change in entire career. I don't know what it is, but what I am telling you is end this year, closing the door, closing, turning the page, ending the chapter. That is 2020. And you need to start 2021 with a fresh perspective, a fresh page. Now.
How does this apply to the Bullpen Session podcast? Well, this is where I'm excited as some of you that my faithful listeners have been listening in now for 83 episodes. For the first 83, I have brought on a mix of thought leaders, some athletes, some friends, colleagues I know, every, anybody who I felt was an abundant thinker. But when I first started this podcast or had the idea to start it, I really wanted to make an impact. I don't drive or use this podcast to drive my business. Quite frankly, I use it for, I don't know, legacy. I use it to make.
A bigger impact than beyond me and what my business of coaching does. And so the audience that I really wanted to make an impact because it's where I come from is the, the audience or the, the population, athletes out there, young and old, those athletes that are in high school today, those athletes that are in college or a professional athlete or a professional athlete that has moved on and is no longer a pro athlete and is now in the business world or is on to chapter two of their career. And so I really wanted to use this podcast to make that impact for people in transition. An athlete leaving their sport, going into the next phase, a pro athlete no longer playing, who's now got to move on to chapter two, or heck, it could be a business executive that is now transitioning into phase two of their life. Remember, when one door closes, an equally beautiful opportunity is going to present itself. So where this podcast is going in 2021, I am excited that I am focused on bringing on current and former pro athletes in all sports. And my goal is to talk to them about mindset. My goal is to talk to them about what they did that allowed them to play at the highest level and how they have used that same mindset to make sure they're having success in phase two. Of their life. Because it is a big struggle for athletes to move on from that sport that has defined their entire life. It's the same struggle that that CEO, that cfo, that teacher, whoever, when they know it's time to move on to phase two of their career. So I'm excited to share this with you. I've already got a great lineup of speakers of interviews, excuse me, lined up again from all different sports. Nascar, rodeo, baseball, football. It is going to be fun. It's good. We're going to have some amazing conversations. So I wanted to let you know, when it comes to this podcast, when 2020 and ends 2021 opens. I'm excited because I. I can't wait to bring you this whole new list of episodes and topics, all surrounded by some athletes doing some great things in their sport and great things in life. So I'm going to end this episode today by sharing this with you. 2020 is ending in two weeks. You just need to figure out how you are going to close this chapter appropriately and how you are going to open that next chapter with a bang in 2021 again. Is it a change in attitude? Is it a change in your job? Is it a change in your entire career? I don't care. But whatever you do, just know that you are starting next year with a clean page. A clean page, clean slate. And it's your opportunity to write the rest of your career. Rest of your life. So with that being said, I wish you, your family, nothing but the happiest and safest of holidays. And we're going to be taking the next week and a half off here with the podcast and we are going to be ready to rock and roll at the beginning of January. You know what happens when clarity and confidence collide, my friend. Action happens. Go make it happen today.
