Andy Neary uses the Great Pyramid—2.3 million blocks, each weighing 2.5 tons, built over 20 years—to show how massive goals get done one small action at a time. Think big, but go small: one daily step compounds into something you'll barely recognize by year's end.

I want you to think about the construction of the Great Pyramids of Egypt at the time they were conceived. I've got to believe Egyptians thought the goal was unachievable. I mean, how do human beings build such massive structures? I even have to believe the minds behind the construction thought the goal was unattainable. But today we have one of the Seven Wonders of the World, with the Great Pyramid standing 450ft tall, 750ft wide, consisting of 2.3 million blocks of stone, each weighing two and a half tons. I mean, how did the Egyptians do it? Formula was simple, though. The goal was big, they went small. They built the Great Pyramid one stone block at a time, day after day, for 20 years. So as we enter 2019 and you're setting your goals, how big are your goals? Are you setting goals that stretch you, that make you feel uncomfortable, that even have you looking up going, how am I going to achieve that? If you are, I've got a piece of advice. Think big, but go small. Attack your goal one action at a time, day after day, and on December 31st, you'll look back, amazed at the feat you just accomplished. Until next time, bear down, focus on the target, and strike out the status quo.
