A short conversational episode (Andy Neary and Amy) encouraging listeners to treat current disruptions as a halftime—an opportunity to reassess and adjust personal and professional goals. The hosts give listeners explicit "permission" to change or quit goals that no longer serve them, emphasizing alignment over sticking to plans for appearance's sake, and urging constructive pivots rather than inaction.

Welcome back to Highly Caffeinated Conversations.
This is Amy. I'm Andy, and this is episode 14.
Today, we're talking about halftime adjustments. What are we talking about?
Well, in the business world, I don't know if you're like me, but every year at the end of the year, I create my goals for the next year.
But who says you have to stick.
To those goals if, come the end of the first quarter, they no longer suit you? I think I've been guilty in the past of setting a goal, sales goal, whatever it might be.
And I know by two or three.
Months in, it no longer serves me.
But I'm gonna prove people I can hit that goal.
So I'm gonna stick with that goal.
Even though it makes no sense to keep pursuing it.
Guys, with what has happened right now, with what we're all going through, consider this halftime.
Whether you're 20 years old, 40 years old, or 60 years old, now is the time to make adjustments. If you have a goal that you just set three months ago that doesn't serve you, don't pivot and change it.
What do you think, Amy?
I always say, if you need the permission slip, I'm giving you one right now. It's like, so often I see people set goals like, I'm going to run a half marathon, like, two weeks in. They're like, I hate this. Running sucks. Like, I love biking.
So quit and go biking.
Like, people decide that they're, you know, dry January, and then you make this delicious dinner, and you're like, you know what? That nice big glass of that cabernet would go so well with this meal.
So have the glass of wine.
People, like, set these goals or these intentions, and you tell everybody, which is awesome. But know that you have the right, and I'm giving you the permission slip right now.
That if it's not working, it does not feel good.
It is not in alignment with you. You have the right to change your mind, and you don't have to feel bad about it. You don't have to explain to people why.
You don't have to justify yourself. Here's your permission slip.
Quit. And by quitting, I mean don't do nothing. Quit means find something else that works better in your life.
Pivot, change it.
You have that right to change your mind. Choose different anytime you want at anything in your life. So if you need the permission slip, there it is.
There you have it, guys. We're giving you permission. Don't judge your actions. Don't let others judge your actions. And if you need to adjust your goals. Do it now. Nobody's going to be mad.
