Matt played high school baseball at Orange Lutheran in Orange County, part of a stacked Trinity League team. The roster included Garrett Cole, Aaron Gates, and Brandon Maurer, with a fourth pitcher named Bob rounding out the staff.
So, Matt. Okay, pause for a second. So your high school team had Garrett Cole, and was Bob on the pitching staff at that time?
He was, yeah. Our high school team was loaded. So Orange Lutheran, we're in the middle of what's called.
The Trinity League, and so it's all the private religious schools in Orange County. And there was a streak there for a while, starting with Garrett. I think it was like seven or eight years in a row. We had a first rounder from our league. I mean, it was something ridiculous. So our pitcher, Bob was like the fourth pitcher on that team, too, because we were two years younger. So Garrett was a senior. We had another guy named Aaron Gates who went to Pepperdine. He played in the. In the minor leagues for a while. Brandon Maurer was our third pitcher, and he was a reliever. He was bouncing around forever. He probably has five years of service time as a reliever. And so our team was pretty. We were pretty stacked. It was pretty ridiculous.
