Successful People Do Inconvenient Things

Andy Neary says financial advisors call for help but rarely follow through. Most avoid inconvenient changes like new prospecting or messaging. Successful people do the uncomfortable work that others skip.

On a weekly basis, I will get advisors who reach out to me looking for help. And there's typically two reasons they're looking for help. They're either stuck, right, they're not selling or doing what they want. They're not hitting the results they want, or some are doing well and they want to take it to the next level. And what's interesting, and I'm willing to admit this, the vast majority of my connections with advisors last one phone.
Because.
They never, they never get back to me.
And when I think about why that's happening, there's a couple reasons. Maybe I'm annoying and they don't like me, which is fine because I'm not a fit for everybody. But two, here's what I think is happening. Most of the time when we jump on a call, I challenge them. I give them some ideas of things they can do with their prospecting, their messaging, their planning.
And that's inconvenient to them. Here's what I'm talking about. If anybody wants a good book to read, I'm reading this book right now called the Power of One More. Ed Mylett. Anybody wants to get a book, good book, super easy read. Not a lot of like mind blowing things, but a lot of good reminders. One thing he says in here, and I absolutely love it, it's successful. People do inconvenient things.
You're, here's what I mean by that when I say inconvenient. These folks that don't get back to me, I'll check in with them five, six months later and when I get a chance to connect, I'll ask them like, okay, so did you implement any of the things we Talked about? And 99% of the time the answer is no.
They're still doing the same things they've always done that aren't working. Why it's convenient.
Most people on this call, if I'm willing to bet, do not like cold call. Well, why do you do it? It's convenient. It's convenient to pick up the phone and dial 10 digits.
Even though you don't like it, it's not effective as it used, as effective as it used to be. You still do it because it's convenient.
So what I want to talk about today is for the folks here who are willing to admit that you're like, okay, I need to pick it up a little bit here in the second half, I'm going to challenge you to start doing some inconvenient things.
