Short excerpt from a YouTube video by Andy Neary encouraging professionals—especially advisors—to share subject-matter expertise through content (video posts, articles). He recommends teaching openly about strategies and current events to attract prospects and addresses common hesitation that sharing ideas helps competitors, arguing competitors likely won’t act or are constrained by employers.
The third bucket.
And this is where most of us go, is subject matter expertise.
This is where you get to be the expert. This is where you get to teach.
Don't be afraid to go on camera. Maybe you write an article and just talk about ways your prospects can win. What are some of the strategies you're helping your clients incorporate? Pick a very top of mind current event in our industry.
And put a post out there about it. That's your subject matter expertise.
If you just spend more time teaching with your content, you're going to have more prospects who see that content and are going to find that content valuable. This is again where a lot of advisors get hesitant because they're afraid that if I go on and teach and I share an idea or I share a strategy, my competition's gonna see it and they're gonna use it against me.
My advice on that is twofold. Number one, your competition most likely is gonna do nothing with it because they're too lazy to do anything with it. And number two, they may even work for an agency or a company that doesn't even let them do what you're doing.
But most importantly, with the subject matter expertise post, he or she who teaches the most will win the most.
