Short spoken rant by Andy Neary cautioning against pursuing short-term wins or 'silver-bullet' hacks at others' expense. Uses recent Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox sign-stealing scandals as a concrete example, highlights the wider human and career harms caused, and advocates hard work, competition, and learning from losses instead of cheating. Tone is admonitory and earnest.

Hey, hey. Happy Saturday. So I want to rant for a couple minutes on short term wins, going after the silver bullet, doing anything you can do to win at anybody else's expense. I'm a baseball fan and if you are too. You saw the recent news about the science dealing scandals that have infiltrated the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox organizations. Two teams that have won World Series in the last three years. What did they do? They literally had cameras in center field that could see the opposing catcher signs and then they would notify their own batters what pitches were coming. Now guys, cheating happens all the time in sports. But this one is really bad because think about all the lives this impacted. What about those pitchers in the playoffs, in the World Series that had to face the Astros and the Red Sox now knowing that the batters knew exactly what was being thrown, that could have cost them millions of dollars in contract extensions. How about that rookie pitcher who got called up to face the Astros but he had no chance because the Astro batters knew what was coming. He gets sent down and never has a chance again to play in majors. You see, when you go after short term wins, when you go after the silver bullet, the hack to win at all cost, you have to think about the other lives you could be impacting. And if you're the one selling the hack, selling the silver bullet because all you care about is impacting your own bottom line, you have to think about the negative impact you are having on other people. Here's the deal, guys. There's no silver bullets in life. There's no hacks. It's called working your ass off. Compete if somebody else is better than you, get better. Life is about competing. And if you are going to want to win today, you got to work your butt off. You got to go up and compete. And if you lose, you learn. If you win, you celebrate and you move on. But don't go after the silver bullet. Don't go after the hack because there is none. Just work your butt off every day. And you know what? If you do, the wins will come anyways.
