Chapters
Welcome to another episode of the real estate newsroom. Today we got a real estate guy in here that owns Land bank properties and help people run up a bag in Land bank properties. We got my guy Zaki. What's up, brother? How you doing?
I'm doing amazing.
Nice, nice, nice. Happy to have you on the show, man. And I was just excited to learn that you even know what a Land bank property is.
Yeah.
So tell the people, man. How did you. How did you learn about Land Bank Properties? How'd you get into it?
Great question. Well, appreciate you for having me.
Of course.
Super excited to be here. I ain't been back in New York for so long. I'm from here, so I've been back since I was in the 10th grade.
Yeah.
But to answer your question, I learned about Land bank properties from one of your students. Her name's Tony. Yeah, we had partnered on a deal back and I believe it was 2022. Like 2022, 2023. We're able to fix up the property because, you know, they got a little bit of requirements before they released the deed. So we fixed up the property just enough and then we were able to wholesale that property for about a 20k profit.
So when she. Tony Glover, right, In Pennsylvania.
Yep.
I interviewed her like two years ago.
Fire.
Yeah. So when she bought those props, she bought two at one time. You remember that? She bought it by accident. So she paid. She. She signed up and bought one. And then she. She had another auction going and got the second one too. So she ain't tell me she had like a secret investor or partner helping her out. How'd you help her out with that?
Pretty much cash capital.
So I helped her get the capital.
No, I had my own capital, so I don't want to put a business out there. But you know, Tony be running a lot of plays. Yeah. So she was a little over leveraged that point. At one point, so I had to step in there with my capital since I wasn't over lever.
Nice. Hey, shout out to Tony and her sister Nikah. Out of PA Strong business women, they get to it. I. I love their heart. Because she bought one, then she bought two. And she called me. She's like, charles, I got two properties. I don't know what happened, but we gonna make it happen now I know where she got the bread from. So. So back then, was you using your own capital or did you leverage business funding?
Business funding.
So you knew about business funding for how long now?
About three and a half years now.
Nice. All right, do Me a favor, bro, because we just jumped right in. Could you. That's your camera right there. Could you introduce yourself to the camera, let them know who you are.
What's going on, family? I'm Zaki, AKA smartphone billionaire. And my goal in life is to help people get to their goals faster. So one of those things is through content and the other ones through credit. So through both of those means, I'm able to help people create cash flow that helps them create freedom. So I'm super passionate about helping people buy back their time.
I love it, bro. That's fire. So you. So we got a lot alike, right? Because not a lot of people know about land, bank, property. Right. And then not a lot of people know about or are passionate about helping people. What do you get out of helping people? Right, Aside from the money. But what else do you find that you get when you really help somebody?
Man, I ain't gonna lie, Turn me up. Like, making money is fun, but when you see like you took somebody from a bad spot and then you like charged them up kind of like. Like when I met Tony, like, I didn't really have to teach her any, like, real estate or credit stuff, but when I met her, she didn't know nothing about the digital side. So I'm like, tony, everybody should know you. Like, it's crazy to know that nobody knows you. Like, you got Airbnbs, you got an event space, you got two roads, you got properties, like, you're successful. So with her, I just pretty much had to convince her how successful she was because we all are our worst enemy at times.
Yeah.
So after convincing her, I was like, well, let's put you together a digital footprint. Everybody heard of regular real estate, but people don't realize, like, content is a new digital real estate, of course. So, like, seeing somebody like Tony be able to start making passive income, that allows her to get in more plays and it gives her that freedom back. Like, damn, man, I'm stressing over being successful because we all, we all run the play, but a lot of the time we don't know what comes with it. Yeah, but when you got that extra 3.5k coming in a month off of maybe some digital products, it makes it a little easy when things slow down or when you're a little over leveraged at times. You know, we get excited about making money. We like, man, I could get in this deal, that deal, but sometimes you need to slow down or at least have some income coming in first.
Absolutely, man, I appreciate that. That's exactly what I get out of helping people too. It's like you, it's almost like you're getting to see people run on their own. Right. And it's never, and I want people to understand this. Helping people is never going to be a negative for you. You're so proud of the people that you help. Like, if you help somebody make three thousand dollars a month, that's like the equivalent of a five thousand dollar a month job somewhere minus all the taxes. You know how good that feels.
Yeah. The average person only needed like an extra 500 to 800 in discretionary income.
Yeah.
So they wouldn't have to file bankruptcy. So, you know, everybody on Instagram is like, oh man, I want to be a millionaire. I want to make all of this money. But if you could just show the everyday person how to supplement their income. Added 2,000, added $3,000. That's a mortgage, that's a car note, that's sending kids to private school. So it's like people don't understand the significance behind making a couple extra thousand dollars because everybody like, oh man, I need to be at 10k already.
Yep. And then when you, when you think about it like that and you think about, like I ask people this question, what would a thousand dollars extra a month do for you? Right. So, so some maybe focus on Millionaire and, and six figures, right. You get to six figures first and you get to the high, then you start thinking million. But I ask people all the time, like, what would an extra thousand dollars a month do for you? Everybody got a plan for it, right? Everybody's like, oh, I could use that. So if you could just start to break it down from an impact perspective. So let's start getting you $1,000 a month. So you helped her with a course or like an ebook or webinars to try to get her into the game where she, she's able to teach people the skill set that she has. Yeah, that's dope, man. What made you so you gotta be really good at systems and processes and the structure of it all. What made you get into that?
Well, you know, a few years ago I was broke, you know what I'm saying? So I was doing doordash, but I was just.
Oh, don't say doordash.
I was coming out of a situation where I was making money.
Yeah.
Like when I was your son's age, I got introduced to network marketing. Okay. So all me and my friends, we were 18, 19, 20 years old, making 10,000amonth. And we thought we had it all figured out. You know what I'm saying?
Y' all was making 10 grand a month at 19.
I was 20.
20.
They were 19.
Making 10. Bro, I got to give it up to you, bro. That ain't no small amount of money for a 20 year old. Or let's say 19, 18, 20. That's a lot of money. How'd you do that?
So we had a good, we had a good system, like you were saying. So we were selling a service that everybody needed. It was like we just went out there, fail fast, you know I'm saying, like we always used to say something like, we not even good yet. Wait till we get good. You know what I'm saying? Because we were just going through the, going through the process. But long story short, yeah, we were making money. But what they don't tell you about building a network marketing company is it's not your company. So anytime the co founders or anytime they want to switch something up, we gonna feel it. You know, I'm saying they already rich ones building the company. So they kept changing the comp plan changing. They probably changed the thing like six times. So I went from making 10,000 plus a month to about 1500amonth. And I had a team of over 200 people. I had bills, I had cars, I had family depending on me. So that's when I hit rock bottom. My credit got messed up and I'm like, dang, bro, like, you know, after touching money like that, you don't want to work for nobody. So I'm like, of course I'm trying to figure it out. Like, man, I'm trying to do drop shipping, I'm trying to do forex, I'm trying to do all of these different means to make money. But I kept running into the same issue as you need capital to invest up front. So that's when after struggling for about almost two years and you know, had to get out of my own way in life, man. Let me, let me just get on doordash real quick. And what's so crazy about the story is I didn't even have any. I didn't have a car at the time because my car got repo.
So I had my girlfriend doordash with your girl's car.
Nah, nah. Even worse, bro.
Worse, it gets worse.
I had to borrow 350 from her because I saw on offer up somebody was selling like a motorbike.
Oh.
So she got her car, drove me to get the motorbike, we put it in her trunk. And from that motorbike, I was able to run up 5k in about 4 and a half weeks. Doing DoorDash in the neighborhood.
Come on, bro, stop. I gotta give it up. I gotta give it up to you, bro. People be telling me they don't have money for stuff. You are the example of go get it. Yeah, go get it. Right? Just go get it. And where was you doing this at? What city?
I was in Venice Beach, California.
So you had nice weather at least.
Yeah, yeah.
You know, in New York, them door dashers, they be on the bikes with the gloves on that come up to here because it be so cold. Helmet, everything.
That's how I be at night, though. So at night I would still do deliveries at, you know, 8, 10, 11pm so I'll be on that same bike with gloves on, a hoodie on.
So you know what it is, Yo, I respect that so much. I respect it so much, man. It's like the money is there. If you have a plan with it, you just need a. You just need a little bit of info to learn how to go get enough money to start to make investments in yourself. And the investments in yourself don't even be costing that much. It's the heart to do it right. So. So. So, bro, like, you killing it right now. All right? So right now you. You help people with funding.
Yeah.
You know the real estate game because you double back and you bought another land bank property, right, without me.
So you.
So you navigated that without me, which is fire, because a lot of people don't know how to do it. So many people. You had Tony to tell you to.
Yeah, she pretty much gave me the place. So she was a really good student because she done jumped on probably three to five zoom calls. Like, can you tell me that website again?
Could you.
Can you tell me the best zip codes? Could you tell me this? Can you tell me that? And she would just tell me every single time without, you know, getting mad.
That makes me happy. Because when you really make it, it's not about the money. It's about impact.
Yeah.
So I know I never met you before to this day, and you telling me you got a land bank property through the help of one of my students. That makes me, like, super proud about my mission and what I'm doing for sure. So you. So you knew how to get to the bag. You knew the funding piece. You knew, you know, real estate, you know how to help people with monetizing their intellectual property. Right. Building out digital products, which is all, like, phenomenal, bro. I love it. And then you telling me A while ago that you can help somebody with their credit, too. You understand the credit game?
Yes, sir. That's how I got started. So when my credit was messed up, I'm doing doordash. My only reason to do door that really was to put money in my pocket so I could go out there and get some. Some information. Because I'm like, man, I keep seeing the courses for learn how to fix your credit, learn how to set up your business. But it was like 3k at the time. Like, yeah, I ain't got that, you know? So my girl, she ain't gonna give me $3,000 because she ain't think like how I think. So I'm like, man, how can I come up with this bread? You know what I'm saying? So I was like, you know, I got. I gotta find a way.
How'd you come up? Did you give her back the first 350?
You know what's so crazy? I'm glad you brought that up, because a lot of people never ask. No, I didn't. What I did was once I got a position, I put her on payroll, so now she don't have to work no more, right? And even last year, last December, I bought her a course to teach her how to do trading. Because, remember I told you was learning how to do trading, but we had no money. So it's like we got good at the skill set, but it was like we never had enough money to show us how good we were. So what I did is I invested in her just like she invested in me. I got her some information, got her a mentor. And I was like, look, I don't want you to trade like them. I want you to understand how winners think in the market. So I got her that course, right? Fast forward. Last week, she just withdrew $8,000 from all of her accounts. She wrote me a check for 5k.
Love it, love it, love it. So as. As. As your girl, man, sometimes they ask for the money back, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they just grab money of ours and we don't. It's like, when you're a couple, it doesn't even matter. So you never physically had to give it back to her?
No. Never. Like, here's the 350, right?
Because y' all in a relationship, good credit, and you're grow funding, you're growing together.
Yeah. So I got her the results out of all of the things that she was investing in me. So that first investment got her a friend for a lifetime. So now I look at her problems like, they my problem.
So she had y' all still together, right? 100, I was gonna say, bro. No, no, don't.
I'm too loyal.
Yeah. No, she helped you in. In, like, the most vulnerable time.
Yeah. A lot of people would have left you.
Now that you up the way you are, it's gonna be hard to find somebody, bro, because they looking at you. Once they see your Instagram, they see, like, you got access to money, real estate, they don't look at you the same. You're never going to be looked at the same. As long as somebody could Google you, check you out on Instagram, it's over. Because now the behavior is going to be different. They're going to be like, yo, he lit jackpot. Right? Not knowing where you are financially at the time, but the perception of what you give off on the. On Instagram or social media is very different from the average person that's out there. Right. So I'm happy y' all still together, bro. That's important to me because it get crazy sometimes, and it wasn't easy, but.
I feel like the thing that made it hard was the money, since it's like, I'm a man, I'm supposed to have it. Anytime we would get into arguments about finances, it had turned into, like, a heated discussion because. Insecurity.
Because you didn't have none.
Yeah, I was down bad. So, like, imagine making money. And she got with me when I was making the bread before. So that's when I met her. When I was making good money, I was having success. I just went out there, caught my force foreign, you know, got into the luxury.
So she knew you was a live dude.
Yeah. So it's not like.
And then you thought I was a bum. Yeah.
So she just knew that I would be able to get it back.
Okay.
She saw the determination, Like, I wasn't willing to settle. I wasn't willing to forget why I was just at.
And she rolled for you throughout. 100%. That's what's up, bro.
She don't give me her last sometimes.
Nice. I love it. So. So would you say from everything that you've done, what was the piece that made you say, I need to invest in myself and learn? Because it sounds like you learned a bunch. You fell and. And then it seemed like your mindset was, I need money to go invest and learn more. What put you in that mindset?
My first mentor was a white guy. He did real estate, too. Right. He was a bad mentor, though. Really good sales guy. And the reason why Our credit got messed up is not because we were, like, using it on stuff we couldn't afford. He already told us, like, credit is a means to get rich. Like, you use your credit to start a business. You use your credit to build a business. So we was already using our credit to grow our companies. Like, we getting materials, we helping people get in the business, we taking flights. It's just that when the money stopped coming in, we didn't have a way to pay it back. And we didn't understand, like, damn, at least just keep making the minimums.
Was that the network marketing company?
Yeah, that was the network marketing. So we were spending all the money on that. So I already knew credit was a glitch because it was like, we was already using it to get there faster. So I'm like, I got to get my credit back because it's like, I can't get no more credit cards. I can't get no capital. I can't invest. It's only based off of what I got saved. And if I don't got nothing saved, that's how you miss it on opportunities. I talk about this all of the time. Like, if you see a really good real estate deal when it takes you 10 months to come up with the capital, 5 months to come up with the capital, that deal is gone, Gone. So opportunities don't wait for nobody. So getting access to capital is a necessity for somebody who wants to have motion.
Nice. Nice. All right, so you believed in mentorship from a network marketing company. You made some money. The model was broken flat on your face. You was down. Zero.
Down? I was under zero.
How you under zero? How do you go under zero?
Because you got. You owe people money.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. So your net worth was, like, negative. You have some credit cards you owed, and so you negative zero. What was your mindset like? Were you like, what was your mindset? Was your spirit still like, I'm a get money, dude. I'm a millionaire in your mind. And you was just cool, Like, I know how I'm gonna learn how to fix this. Or was you spiritually, mentally just broken? Like, maybe I really ain't nobody.
That's a great question. So when I first came here, you was like, what you listen to, right? And to be honest with you, I said, I don't really listen to music. I listen to audiobooks. I've been this way since I was your son's age. Like 18, 19, 20. I heard whatever you tune into, you turn into. So I'm like, yeah, me and my Friends, we challenged each other. We're like, let's try not to listen to music for a whole year. So we cut off Gucci Mane, we cut off future, we cut off Young school to all of the trap rappers, and we just started listening to people like Zig Ziglar, Les Brown, George Zalecki, people that can pour into our mind. So it's like, I already had a bulletproof mindset from doing that. So no matter what happened to me, I already knew I was. This is a part of the plan.
So I'm like, you just took a hit. Like, you take that on the shoulder and keep on, keep on moving.
Exactly. So I built my mindset tonight. Not taking under this stuff personal. It's business.
What? Like, So I got two. I got two sons, right? One is 19, the other is 22. He, they list. They, they not there yet. They, they not. They. That switch hasn't flipped for them where they want to make a hundred thousand, a million dollars on their own. What got you there? Like, what got you so, so locked in? Was it like you had, like, your parents? Wasn't you. You ain't have no money, no nothing?
Nah, my parents, I went to school with 100. I went to college. Your son told me he just got shout out to him, but I went to college just like him. But I went to school with 150 in my pocket. I had to sell a pair of my sneakers just to come up with some money. So it's like, me, I ain't go to school with no resources. I ain't really have a family to support me. So I was just on the campus by myself, broke, for two, three years. Like, man, how can I come up? And I just got tired of that. I'm like, man, I'm tired of being a broke college kid. Like, yeah, I'm going to school to become a mechanical engineer. So I know the payoff is coming. But I'm like, yo, yo, yo.
It's hard, especially in the cafeteria. They serving the same food every day. It's like. And you don't got no money, all right?
And I'm from New York, right? I remember I grew up. I grew up in the Bronx, and I grew up in Harlem, right? So I remember it was one day, I seen Joel. I know I seen Cameron and I seen Jim Jones. They pulled up in a purple Lamborghini on 142nd, right?
Yeah.
And I'm just like, damn. Like, this is something. I never would have expected to see it from that moment. It's always resonated resonated with me. Like, I could do that. I could pull up to my hood to inspire kids. Like, they inspired me. So it's like, I can't stop until I'm able to do that.
You know what's funny? That impacted me, too. One time, I was going to a party and in Manhattan, and then I seen, like, three foreign come out of the garage, back to back. They was all white, back to back. I knew the people doing them. I knew that what they were doing. And I was like, I know it's possible, right? Because I see them doing it. I know it's possible. I was super young, too. Probably too young to be in the party anyway. You know, New York, like, we gonna get in. If it's on fire, we're getting in, right? But seeing it, and my friends was like, yo, they killing the game. Like, you know? But we all knew they were doing the stuff we. That you shouldn't do.
Yeah.
But what it did to me, seeing it, I was just like, all right. I like how we look in those cars.
Yeah.
And from then, it just did something to me psychologically. So I know how important seeing stuff is now. I don't know how we influenced the younger generation. Because he grew up with Porsches driving Lamborghinis to high school. His car broke down, so I let him drive a Lamborghini to high school. He used to drive a Maybach to high school. He's out of high school now. But I don't know how that impacts him, if it impacts him that way or if he just feels like this is normal and like, it's just going to fall out of the sky for us. It was like, oh, we gotta go get that. So I'm curious to see how it affects how ours works. Because I went to college with no money either. I had nothing, Basketball scholarship and food. Moms was like, deuces, like, you don't need me no more. Don't even ask. Because like, coach said, you got food. So don't even. Don't even call me for nothing, right? Just call me to say hello. And that was it. So I had to go get it. Like, whatever I saw and wanted, I had to, like, actually go get it from ground zero. And I'm curious to know, will that same burning desire and fight be instilled in someone who was born with it?
That's a great question. I don't feel like it will, but if you put those principles in him and those traditions in him, he don't need that because he's Going to follow the principle and follow the tradition. So it's like he don't got to get it out the mud. He don't got to have that desire that we got to our core where it's like, man, you know how it feels to go to, to eat, sleep for dinner. You don't got to feel that as long as, you know, he got that, that blueprint to follow and he sees you being, you know, a man of faith, doing the things you're supposed to do. Children don't do what we say, they do what we do. So just by leading by an example and then what, I heard this the other day. As long as he has SOPs, because a lot of the times you could leave from all of the things you've done, but he won't know how to run them.
Yeah.
Because there's no. And that's not his fault, that's whoever left it to him. So if there's SOPs and things in place for him to follow or for him to hire somebody else to implement or he's going to be Gucci no matter what he does. Just because of that.
I told you, bro, you're system oriented. SOPK stands for Standard Operating Procedure. All right? It's a guideline on how things get done. So that's dope. All right, so you in school and you're already putting together a group of friends that are like minded that are saying that now we're not going to listen to that. We gonna listen to that.
Wasn't my college friends, it was my boys from the hood. So my college friends, they kind of grew up in two family households where they didn't have to think about anything.
They had a little credit card.
It wasn't no principle, it wasn't no tradition. So when they got to college, it was just like, all right, they better just smoke, they better just drink, they better just party. But I'm like, I can't even afford to do that. You know what I'm saying? So it was a little different for me. But one of my homeboys, you know, we use my day one like we was in the hood together, we, you know, you know, went half so a five dollar foot long.
Yeah.
He called me like, bro, I just tagged up with some millionaires. They put me on the game and I had came home for the weekend. That's when he showed me the network marketing business. I'm like, I don't know about that one. But that's when, you know, the person just asked me a couple questions like well, you see, your boy, he's serious about this. He just had a promotion. He's going to take this company to the top. And I asked him, like, bro, you gonna really be doing this? He looked at me, said, yeah. I'm like, it's only 500. And at that time in college, I had just started getting. I just had to got a job working with the cheerleader coach. I had the best job, and I had the best job on campus. I'm working with all of the cheerleaders. So I'm like, making a little bit of money. I'm making 725 an hour. It would take 14 hours to make a hundred dollars.
So I'm like, 7:25 an hour?
Yeah. 14 hours to make a hundred dollars. So I'm like, all right, bro, just let me get back to work. Let me go work five weeks, you feel me?
Yeah.
And get the money started. So that's when I got started. You know, obviously, I didn't really take it serious because I didn't know what I had my hands on. But once I started seeing my homeboy, like, start making money, he started changing his lifestyle around. Is this the same thing I paid for, bro? He like, yeah, bro, you ain't been doing shit, though. I'm like, oh, I'm tripping. Let me tap back. And that's what it kind of was. It wasn't like the people I was around. It was the people that was just showing me like they were sick and tired of being in the same spot.
So you're in. You're in college, you have your coursework to do. You have a job. How many weeks did it take for you to get to 500?
5. About five weeks.
Five weeks of savings. That's with no spending, right? Because to get. You probably had $30 extra after five weeks at 7:25. That is different. That's determination. That's grind. That's commitment. That's like a winning attitude, a winning mindset. That's not common. You. Are you aware of that?
No, I know business. We know it ain't common.
It's just not common. So even though we could lay it out and people do it, that discipline is different. It's just. It's just not common, man. So I'm happy to hear you had that, because a lot of people would just say no. They. They see 300 in a draw, right? We used to save our money in a draw, right? And then they gonna go spend it because something fun's coming up and they put it off. So you definitely had the discipline to put that money aside. All right, so now tell me how it was when you made your first 10,000. Did you. Did you trick that off? You, you, you, you. You burned right through it.
First thing we did. You already know what you do. I had no girl at the time. So all we doing, we take the girls out to eat. We ball, and we go into the club. Club. We weren't even old enough to drink, but we going to clubs, you know, we started getting foreigns. I got a drop top BMW. My homeboy here got M6. And then we just, you know, we was messing up money. We're going to get clothes every day. How.
How much money was you getting and how often?
We would get checks every week. So we got paid every week in the company, and we got one residual a month. My residual was trash. It was like a hundred dollars.
Yeah.
But I would get like 1800 a week sometimes. My biggest check during that time was like 6500 in one week. And I'm like, oh, damn. Cash, Direct deposit.
Yeah, yeah. Oh, into your account. 6,500. Oh. So it was easy to get that drop. That drop top. You put some a system in there.
Nah, I didn't even do nothing.
It came with one.
Yeah, it came with a nice system.
It was a gold.
All I did was just throw the tints on there.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So y', all. What city was y' all in?
I was in Baltimore.
Yeah, I was in Baltimore. Cruising, killing it. It was the summertime.
Summer and winter.
So you had a whole year of really making money.
Yeah.
Nice. So what was the dumbest thing you did with that money when you got it?
That.
The car.
That. And that's.
That's.
I would say that because how young I was like, my. My note was 600 and my insurance was 600, so I'm paying 1200 just to drive around. And then my mom had gave me her apartment, right. She gave me her rent control apartment. It was 675.
You let it go.
I just start feeling myself too much. I'm like, man, I don't like the neighborhood. I don't like this. I don't like that.
It's out of here.
You went and caught three times that price.
Crazy.
That was probably the dumbest thing I did. Just upgrading my lifestyle. Of course, you're supposed to have fun. Yeah, but I was just upgrading my lifestyle so fast without investing.
Oh.
What I should have did was, you know, grab the land, bank properties and stuff like that first, because I would have been an owner no matter what happened in that company.
Yeah. And I say this all the time. Cash is not wealth or rich. Cash flow is wealth or rich. So if you got a cash flow of a hundred thousand dollars, I'll take cash flow of a hundred thousand dollars, over a million dollars any day. Because really that's just 10 months.
Yeah, right. I'd be telling people all the time, people, oh, I'm taking the 850 credit. Taking the cash. Taking the cash every time.
Yeah, but cash flow like. Like if you bought three, four properties, even in Baltimore, they have the properties that are really cheap. I think they down to like a dollar or a hundred dollars.
You just got to show that you got funds to renovate it.
Yeah. So you could probably, with your discipline, could have saved up that money, went and bought a whole block, and now you got $10,000 a month coming in. So now I can see you while it driving, throwing money in the air. It doesn't matter because, you know, on the first you getting 10. Right. And then of course, that just grows from there because now you understand money and you learn. But that's not a bad. I mean, cars, apartments, jewelry. Oh, yeah, it ain't that. It ain't that environment where you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. People don't realize different parts of the country, the culture is so different. Right. There's. There's parts of the country where if you driving around in an expensive car, you killing it. They proud to see you. Go ahead, brother, you're doing your thing. And then other parts of the country, it's like you teasing them, like how many times you're going to keep driving around here with that, knowing we don't got no money, knowing we don't got no car, knowing like, we never been inside of a convertible. It's just a different culture. And it's the same thing with jewelry, too. Some places you could wear a ton of jewelry and, you know, diamonds and everything, and you cool. It's appreciated. And it's unfortunate, some parts of the country, you just can't do that safely.
Yeah. It ain't worth it.
It's not worth you. You already know something's going to happen to you. So that's tough. All right, so now let's get into what's the best thing you did with your money?
Best thing I did with this money? Help my mom out, give back to the church. I feel like the most money I probably gave to. I was given 10%. Every nice. Every Sunday, I would get 10%. I feel like the Most I ever gave in one week was probably like, six, seven hundred dollars. And I remember I was in church with my mom. I'm like, mom, you think I'm ODing? She looked at the check.
She can't be mad because you're giving it to the church.
So it's like, yeah, probably, like, one of the coolest things I did, just like, nice. Stay. Continue to put God first and just have that faith. And just know that if I give him his share, he gonna keep giving me my share.
Of course. And then helping your mom, that's a whole different level of a blessing. You know, nobody's in your corner like your parents, your mom specifically, but nobody is rooting for you harder and championing you than your parents. And then now they get a little, you know, a little something. Lump sum. They like, whoa. Like, you know what I'm saying? It's just like, the perfect way to give back. And when you do get money. So, yeah, that's dope facts. All right, so now how did you get to where you are today? Because I feel like right now, man, you don't cut your teeth. You done major mistakes. You built your business. You got. You got structure to it, systems, processes to the point where you're helping other people. You got testimony to where you. You're helping people out there. How'd you get to where you are today?
Just putting that work in. You know what I'm saying? Like, heard LeBron said it's like, you can't cheat the game. Because I love LeBron. No, Diddy, I love the Bron because it's like, how much he puts into the game, and he be saying stuff that's really gems, like. And when he said a lot of y' all cheat the game, that's why y' all not still here, it hit me. I'm like, damn, he right. Like. And he started explaining what they doing. Like, they're going to sleep early. They not putting in any extra hours. They're not hiring anybody outside of the team, people. So he's like, y' all don't really want this. So I'm like, dang, he right. I don't really want this. I got to start to prove to myself that I want it. So. So I started to just be LeBron James or be Kobe Bryant in my everyday life. I ain't making it to the league, but I can create my own league. So I'm like, as long as I'm putting that work in, I got a mentor, somebody that I know is giving me the Blueprint to success. Because you said something earlier. You was like, buying the properties, and I would have had 10k in cash flow. That means you're a good mentor. My first mentor did real estate, too, but he looked at us like pawns. He said, oh, these are young black men in Baltimore. I could get them to do whatever I want because they look up to me. So he didn't really teach us about the. The wealth.
Right.
Real estate. We knew he did it, but he kind of hid it from us, and he just kept us focused on growing the company. So that's what I'm saying. Like, it's all about mentorship. Who's guiding you, who's putting you on with the information to get you there faster.
So who would you say helped you to become who you are today?
Like, mentorship wise?
Yeah.
The first ones I gotta say is God. Then I gotta say my mom. I gotta say my girl, because she's my biggest supporter, and if I do something wrong, she gonna be honest with me. If I do something right, she gonna be honest with me.
Yeah, you get from there people. You need those. You need those, like, grounded people to tell you, like, yeah, that's good. Or, no, that. Like, that ain't it for you, because they know you. They know who you are. So your mom could probably tell you, like, no, no, no, that ain't it. And then you'd be like, for real. It's more than what you could see, right? Even your girl, they'll tell you, like, this is better for. Like, if you gave them two choices, they automatically know which one is for you and which one is not.
Yeah.
So that's good to have. Even earlier today, I. I hit up two people, and I'm like, yo, which one y' all think? And then they told me, like, this is you. So I was like, all right. Sometimes when you don't have those people around you and that circle, you're gonna get people that tell you yes to everything. Should we go this way? Yeah, great idea. Should we go that way? Total opposite. They'd be like, great idea. And then you realize, like, it takes a while, but you realize, like, you really don't have a lot of people, like, core people around that could really help position you for the next level.
Yeah, it's hard. A lot of people just, yes, man. Yes, woman. Yeah, they just wait for the payout. They don't really care.
They want. They. They want the money that comes with it. They don't really care. So who else, like, when did you start investing or did you start investing in a mentorship? Like, how'd you learn systems, processes?
You.
You do credit, funding, help with real estate. You know, a lot. Did somebody teach you that?
I learned a little bit from everybody. So with that five grand, I stacked up from doing doordash, the first thing I bought was I bought a 500 course from him. 500 to teach me how to.
Hey, I gotta shout them out again, man. Shout out to him. 500 another. Did he change your life?
Yeah, 100.
Another person that's been on my podcast. That's a him. 500 changed his life, man. I appreciate you for the work you doing out there. Yeah, that recession proof went crazy.
I didn't want to give recession proof. Oh, no, it was 3K. I just got the credit repair part. Okay. You know what I got? I got 5k stacked up. Let me just fix my credit. You know what I'm saying? So that's what I did. I took the 500 and I started fixing my credit. I fixed my credit in four and a half months with that information. And that's when I'm like, damn, this crazy. And that's when I'm like, what's next? So that's when I started learning about building the credit, getting funded. And then I'm like, all right, I got, you know, 50, 60, 70K in personal funding, but every time I use it, it reflects on my personal. So, yeah, this ain't. I don't really want to use this too much to grow business, right?
Because you get your credit up, then you buy something to go down. You're like, but I'm paying it. But you. You realize.
Yeah.
That you used it. So I'm teaching he no credit, too.
Oh, that's fire.
He. He understands it. And he'd be telling me. I'd be telling him, use my card, not his. Because he got three traits, three personal credit cards already, right? And he'd be using. I'd be like, yo, stop using yours. You have my. He got my amex. I'm just like, use mine. It's. None of it's your money anyway, right? So I'm like, just use mine. And he don't understand. He'd be like, my credit score is a 770. And I'm like, no. As soon as they see you use $1,000, it's going to go down. And it takes a while because he's super young, but he just turned 19. But over time, he's gonna understand, like, you just let that sit there and look pretty for you. The Business side is where you can go. You get business funding and use it as much as you want or need to, and you still look pretty on the personal facts. Yeah. So it's hard to get that into his head, but he's getting it 100%.
Because he's gonna get around some of his homeboys, and then he gonna see them using their credit bad. He'll be like, oh, no, this ain't it. I see why pops is telling me what he's telling me.
And somebody gonna say, my credit score is a three, a 400. He gonna black almost 780, as if he did it on his own. Right.
It's gonna be his homeboy. It's gonna be his homeboy who got the amiri on all that stuff. And his credit gonna be jacked up. He gonna have the same thing going, but his credit better. So you like. I understand that.
Yeah. That's important to learn. All right, so him 500, and after.
Him 500, I bought a. I bought a Facebook ad course was 2500. So it pretty much taught me how, you know, post the content, social media, run ads, and kind of like systems operations.
Okay, so now you got both.
And I bought that from Laurel Lane, so I can't shout out him 100. 500. Not shout her out. So I bought that from Laurel. Laurel, yeah, her name is Laurel Lane.
Shout out to you, Laurel, for changing another life. Like, this information, this mentorship information that people are giving are changing lives. Lot of times people don't come back and tell us that we. What we did for them. Yeah, you noticed that too.
I told her the other day because she, you know, she'd be seeing me go so crazy, and I was like, yeah, you was one of the first people I paid, you know? You know, we say that's hot. You know, medium ticket. I was like, you was the first person I paid. She like, really? I didn't even know that. I was like, yeah, I appreciate you.
Yeah. It's important to tell your mentor. That's why I be shouting mentors out all the time, because somebody pulled up on me on the street. I did a business mix, a business network, and lunch on Saturday, and somebody just pulled over and was like, yo, Charles, y. I just wanted to thank you. You got me my first land, bank, property. I didn't get a chance to hit you in your DM and let me know. And I never knew, saw, or heard of the person in my life, but that meant so much to me because it was like, keep going.
Yeah.
Like, sometimes I Just teach and teach and teach. And based on comments and likes and share shares, you might be thinking that they not watching or they not looking. But people really pay attention when you got good information and when you really telling places where people could go change their lives and level up, there's so many thousands of people that are actually listening.
100. A lot of people go, they go watch it, but they're not going to like it because they don't want everybody in their business.
It's like, who cares if you say, if you say bank of America just had a. Got a zero percent interest credit card for 18 months, man. I'm liking it. I'm gonna say, yo, thanks bro. I appreciate you keep going. I'm following you. And I'm. And I might put it in my stories too. That's the, that's the mindset of there's not enough money for everybody.
Yeah, right.
I don't care where I get information from. I'm telling everybody like, yo, Zaki, I'm telling y' all right now. Could change your life through credit, get you that business money. And for my, my land, bank people, for all the people, I got houses. He probably, he, he knows the minimum requirements to help you out so he can help you 100. Which is going to be fire, bro. They gonna, they're gonna reach out to you, you know. All right, so you got credit, you got Facebook ads going now, right? So now you're generating your own customers for your credit business.
So I didn't start doing credit. I didn't start doing credit. What I started doing was marketing because remember, I was already good at marketing. So I'm like, I just stay with it. So I'm like, I'm helping business owners like you with running they ads and you know, social proof out first.
Yeah.
And what I kept running into us, I'm like, all right, well how you gonna run your ads? And you'd be like, oh, my debit card. And I'm like, what are you talking about? You don't get no credit cards. And you're like, nah. So that's when I started learning, like, oh snap. I need to start helping people get capital. Because the people I'm helping run ads, they using a debit card. They only got 2500 on there. We not gonna be able to scale. So that's when I'm like, you know what? Let me start teaching these same people how to fix their credit, get access to capital so when they run into ads, it's not using all of their own money. And they kind of like, dang, man. Like, does this work?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, so now you got a nice business going. Credit. You doing ads. When did you add on funding?
I added on funding probably about a year after I was doing the ads. So that's probably like 2020, the end of 21. So I'm like, you know what? Everybody's going crazy, but we need that. We need to get them some capital.
Yeah.
That's when I taught him how to credit card stack on a personal side. I'm like, look, this is what you need to do. You need to go find three to five banks and credit unions that's gonna pull from here. You need to find some more from here. We need sponsor here. So it was all working, but that's when we realized, like, everything reports to personal. So I'm like, ah, damn, that's not it. So then we had to start learning about business funding. So from business funding, I started. I forgot who I paid. I paid. Damn, it's been so long. But I paid this one guy. He pretty much helped me get funded. I already knew, but I'm just like.
Maybe it's something other people. No. Yeah.
So I paid him, and he just showed me, like, all right, what you want to do is you want to have the BRMs, and you want to have.
That's pretty much business relationship manager.
Yeah, business relationship manager at the banks, but that's pretty much all I took away from him because I already knew how our profile supposed to look. You know, the 10 accounts. I need some comparable credit.
Let's share some game real quick, bro. We got a couple minutes left. That's your camera right there. We're gonna go rapid fire. Give. How many. How many trade lines do you need on your personal credit report to build out a business profile?
So if your goal is to get funded anywhere from 50 to 100,000 from the banks, you want to make sure you got at least 10 positive accounts reporting on your credit report. That could be self. That could be credit strong. That could be Ava. That could be tomo. You could go to the Navy Federal pledge loan. You could go do that at other credit unions. Then you want to get yourself some comparable credit. A bank isn't going to give you a $50,000 business credit card or even a line of credit if you've never received any type of funding before. So make sure you got at least two personal credit cards with limits between like 2 to 5,000 inquiries under about 3. And then that means your profile set up. But don't go get funding yet. What you want to do is I could give you guys banks, but I'd rather everybody's situation is different because of where you guys are geographically. So I'd rather you go to bankbranchlocator.com, put your zip code in, see what banks pop up on that website. Double check on those banks website that they offer 0% funding. Once you find three to five banks, then you want to go to another website called Help me build credit. It's going to tell you the bureaus that those banks are going to pull from, and a lot of the times it's going to tell you the last applicant's details. So let's say I applied for a Chase card. I got a 680 credit score. I tell you how much money I make on the personal side. I tell you how much money I make on the business side. I tell you my highest credit card limits. All of that information is going to be on help me build credit. So if you take the information from the from bank branch locator.com and you pair it with help me build credit, you can easily run up 50 to 100,000 on the personal side and on the business side.
That's mean right there. And you know what? I was asking to see if I was doing it right, but you know so much more than I do. Just based on what you said, I would just ask you to do it for me. Yeah, right. I'm just going like, I'm just gonna ask you to do it for me. Because for me to like, it's just I trust in you. Knowing what you just explained to me, I'd rather you just do it for me. I build houses for people, and I'm gonna need some capital pretty soon, so I'm probably gonna need probably like 500,000.
Mm, let's make it happen.
What's the most you ever got for somebody in funding?
About 200,000.
200. What'd they do with it?
Real estate.
Real estate. You fund a lot of people that do real estate?
Yeah, that's my target customer. So I only run. I only when it talks about funding. I usually help people who do real estate now, like the digital marketing stuff, I help anybody who can help somebody. So if you got some sauce, you can help somebody, I can help you. But if you can't help nobody, we got to get you a skill set first. And we ain't just gonna be scared.
Go learn something first, right?
Nah. Thanks.
All right. I love that. So let me ask you this. How how much of a professional do people have to be before you you recommend they start teaching first?
I always tell people it's a three step process. First you got to learn, then you got to execute for yourself. Then once you execute for yourself, you want to determine if you want to start putting everybody on. That's step three. But everybody always goes from learning to trying to put people on. That's why so many fake gurus and don't go through such a stigma on the industry of people helping each other. And it's because that person hasn't done the work on themselves first. Because once you help yourself, you know it works.
So is there a time limit? Like if somebody learns something? Let's say my son, he's 19. If he learned how to trade forex, right. He's made money and lost money. He knows how to set up the account. He could explain candles. He could tell you that you got to read the news before you start trading. He could tell you what a bullish engulfing. What's the other one? Bearish engulfing. Right. He could tell you break and retest. Is he now qualified to teach it or do you need like years in the game before you start teaching?
Well, something like trading, I would say you need more time because the market fluctuates. It's always a bear market or a bear, a bull market or a bear market. So if your son has only experienced a bull market during his time trading, I don't think he would be the best coach for somebody else because he hasn't experienced all different types of markets. But if he has in his short period of time trading. Yes, but if not, I would tell him obviously you want to see the, you know, the flows of the market first and if he's made money. So if he. Forget what I'm saying. If he making money, he provided for himself. Yeah. He can start teaching people.
I try to teach him to the simplest possible like focus on a bullish engulfing. When you see that set up by itself.
Yeah.
Take don't got to come every day. It don't got to come every time you trade. But when you see it, the probability of that hitting is so high, like just stay there.
So my girl trade, she's making money doing it. But one thing we learned together is this. You want to keep it super simple. So we always say like key area signal.
Yeah.
So as long as you following the trend prices in a key area and it gives you a signal, that's why it won't be a good trade.
Yeah, it's all about pro, it's all about probability. Right. Is this a highly probative prob. Probable trade? Right. It's not always gonna hit, but like, is this in that 80% range where 8 out of 10 is gonna hit? And I try to just keep them like in that one specific lane. Me personally, I think if you learn something, if you took the time to read, learn, educate yourself on something and you got the result that you're saying that you can get for someone, I think you're qualified to teach other people. Yeah, I really do.
Now if you'd ask me that or something outside of trading, I would be like, yeah, 100%. But it's just trading so hard.
Yeah, yeah. It's so many variables.
It's like you said basketball, 100%.
Yeah. You know how to shoot, you, you know how to make 100 free throws in a row, you don't need 50,000. You know, you know the form, you know, you know how to line up the feet, the elbow, the hand, the wrist, the follow through. You can teach it, you can, you can go be a free throw coach. Yeah, right. So, yeah, I agree with that man. And I think more people should be helping other people. I firmly believe that when you pay somebody, you pay attention. You really want to get what you paid for out of it. So if somebody paid them to learn free throws, they gonna listen and do everything he say. If somebody said, hey, just help me with my free throws, he say, meet me at 9 o' clock tomorrow. They gonna, they might come, they might not come, they might come at 9:30, 10:00'. Clock. And it's like, yo, what you doing? But if you pay, you're gonna be there, right? So I believe in that. All right, so, so talk us through because my audience is really gonna be interested in getting help from you. Talk us through ways that you can help people and how they can reach you.
So the first way you guys can reach me, obviously is by YouTube. Go to Smartphone Billionaire on YouTube, on Instagram. I got a lot of free content on there. I do. My girl be telling me I'm crazy. I'd be giving people so many plays, so much stuff that I don't pay tens or 20 or 30 thousand dollars for. But it's like a lot of people just need to get a taste of a result so that they keep them in the game longer. A lot of people be failing. They be getting misled so much that their trust factor is all messed up.
And then it's changing lives, right? So it's all. It all goes into your legacy. It all goes into the impact that you make, which in turn, in its own way comes back around to you.
Facts, bro. Just like what you're doing. Like, I helped 5,200 people get access to a quarter million in funding. Now we can start buying up. You said Alabama, right?
Yeah, Birmingham, Alabama.
Now we can start buying up Alabama. And. And we build in the slots, you know, saying. And start doing group economics and stuff like that. So it's not about just me getting the funding. That's teaching our community how to get it so we can stop being preyed on. And you Know having to do bad stuff.
Oh, that's super smart, man. All right, so tell. That's your camera right there. Just tell them where to find you. Shout out both. You got two Instagram. Shout out both.
