90 Minute Transformational Breathwork Journey | Live in Los Angeles

Sandy and Alex lead a 90-minute breathwork session in Los Angeles, moving through diaphragmatic breathing, breath holds, and a cacao ceremony. The practice cycles between deep rhythmic breathing and retention phases designed to trigger dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins, with participants lying down for accelerated breathing rounds and visualizations of energy moving up the spine.

You want to continue playing while we speak a bit?
It's beautiful. Thank you.
This is vibe shift, everyone. Roni, thank you. Welcome everyone. Who all stayed for the primal class?
Oh, right on, nice.
So we're all in our bodies, ready to go a bit deeper in the bodies. My name is Sandy. Alex and I will be leading you on a journey tonight of the breath. We just want to cover a few logistics before we drink some cacao and go deep with the breath. The bathrooms are back there. I'm not too sure if there's other bathrooms in this place. This over there in this corner as well? Okay. We seem to all have mats. If you have a jacket, it's nice to have. Sometimes we get cold in these sessions. And besides logistics, go pretty straightforward. Yeah, you want to say some words, Brother Alex?
Yeah, thanks. Uh, just super grateful for Primal Moves, for Gus and Chanel and the whole crew that are hosting us tonight. This space is really beautiful. It's been really easy to roll in here and do our thing. Super grateful to Katie, who also helped make this happen, and to lots of friends who helped contribute to make this easy. And grateful to all of you, as I said when we began, that you came out and supported this event, and that you're here for yourselves and here for community. So it's just always nice to start with gratitude in the heart.
Yeah.
So We're here to breathe, and depending on how familiar you are with breathwork, it's always good to just go back to the basics, start at the beginning. When we're born as babies, we breathe with our bellies. If you ever watch babies breathe, they move their diaphragms a lot. And so that's what we want you to do. And so as you're feeling your body right now in this moment, Just notice that you're breathing. Notice that the breath has been there doing its thing. And notice that you can also become aware of the breath, and you can use your diaphragm to draw air down into the, into the belly. So if you just try that for a moment, maybe if you've got your cacao, just put it down for a second and just try putting your hand on your belly and just take a breath into the belly, down into the hips. In through the nose, just let it out through the mouth. Feel that again. The effort is on the inhale, and you're softening your body on the exhale. One more time. So that's the belly, and then you've got this incredible chest, these powerful lungs. So as you breathe into the chest, imagine your chest expanding to the sides. Just take some—
if you feel like putting your hand on your chest and just going Couple more.
And then lastly, the upper chest and the shoulders. If you want to just breathe in and lift the shoulders up, exhale, let them drop. One more time in. Soften the jaw, soften the eyes. One last one. Then just a couple more breaths, and then Sandy's gonna teach us a little about our tensions. Now just imagine your breath is this singular wave. And imagine— I like to think about the power of the ocean when I'm breathing. So you think belly, chest, upper chest. One more time, feel those waves.
Yeah, beautiful.
Let your body unwind, let it twist and unfurl. Every part of you is welcome here. Sounds, movement, stretching, breath. I want you to feel super comfortable, like you're just chilling out in your living room with a cup of cacao and some good friends.
Yeah, so that is the breathing technique we'll be doing tonight. There's, there's many different ways to breathe, tons of techniques, but we're just going to keep it nice and simple, breathing like that. And as you said, that's the activation, the inhale, the breathing. This is the yang. And yeah, like all things in life, we need to balance out the yang with some yin. So I find that the breath retentions in between each round of breathing, we're gonna hold our breath, sometimes after the inhale, sometimes after the exhale. So we're gonna take turns guiding different rounds of breathing, and then you're gonna hear us. All right, let's take a big breath. Breathe in. We can all take a breath in together. Hold your breath at the top. See what this feels like. Maybe your heart begins to speed up, feeling some things. Now exhale about halfway. Hold your breath again. Feel things slow down. Relax your shoulders. Okay, now you can take an inhale. Let the breath go. So we're going to be doing series of that deep breathing followed by breath retentions. And it's in this state of retention where, yeah, everything slows down. You feel this nice space of nothingness, which is beautiful. And then at some point you're going to feel this urge to breathe. Okay, I recommend And I encourage you to maybe feel into those sensations of this air hunger. You know, it's beautiful to find a little resistance that you're feeling. Maybe count down from 10 in the head when that feeling gets strong to take a breath. And then you can take a breath in whenever you want. Now in this state is where we feel dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, endorphins, all these beautiful hormones. So you can imagine how we're going to feel after an hour of this breathing. We're all going to be floating, you know. But with the breathing, I think we should mention there are some feelings that we're going to feel in the body. You know, we're breathing in a lot of air, a lot of prana. We're changing the gases in our body. So you might feel some tension build up in your body, sometimes in your hands, your feet, your mouth. See if you can just breathe in some, some softness to this, some curiosity. Know that the body has a natural healing mechanism where it builds up tension on its own in order for it to be released. Stuff that we've been pushing down for a long time that finally just has this space, this beautiful space that we're in, to be released. You might get a little cold, so it's nice to maybe have a blanket or a jacket nearby. So that's, that's kind of how the breathing that we're gonna be doing. Who is brand new to breathwork? Never done any breathwork? Yes, amazing, welcome. Yeah, thank you guys for your curiosity. But yeah, you can't do it wrong. We're just breathing a little deeper and a little faster than our normal breath, and sometimes we hold our breath. That's how the journey is going to go. And then after, we're going to enter meditation, shavasana, where we just bathe in, in this goodness that we've built up through the breathing, where your subconscious is open. You can receive these downloads, insights, ideas. You can have releases. So yeah, just allow the, the music to take you on a journey tonight and trust the breath. Know that you are in control. It is just the breath. So, so knowing that, let's see if we could have some fun. Yeah, beautiful.
Yeah, beautiful. And so as Sandy said, we want you to kind of explore and trust your body and trust your breath. If at any point you're feeling like the rhythmic breath is just too much to manage and it's overwhelming, just let let it go. Trust your experience.
It's okay.
It's good to push the edge a little bit. Some of breathwork, as Sandy was just explaining, consciously stresses the system out, and that's a good thing. But, you know, we don't want to push ourselves too hard sometimes. Whatever you need is okay. And so now to Mama Cacao. If you want to just grab your cacao So cacao is a wonderful, wonderful plant. It takes a long time for it to give fruit, sometimes up to 10 years of growing before it starts to actually produce fruit for the world. And it grows in very specific parts of the world. And right now, because of all the changes happening in our world, cacao is actually having a hard time. So it's extra extra gratitude to the cacao in this moment because it's very sensitive to change. And so anytime I've got cacao in my hands, I try my best to just give thanks. And also the way we passed it out is really beautiful. Cacao loves to be given, so it was sweet that we got to give it on its way out. But really it's just here for you to commune with and say hello to and pray with and put your intentions into, however that feels good for you. And when you first start to sip on the cacao, just— the invitation is to smell it, take it into your mouth, go slow, and just be with it. Feel the preciousness of it and invite it into your practice. It's a very gentle, euphoric medicine. And, uh, Roni, we have some for you behind here on the table whenever you want to take a sip. Yeah, you can.
Sure. Thank you.
Thank you again. Thank you, Roni. That was beautiful. Giving thanks to the cacao crew that prepared this beautiful medicine. Thank you so much.
All right, so when you finish this beautiful cacao, we can find our way to a lying down position. Just arriving to your space.
Just finding that space that you'll be in for this next hours.
So if you have a cushion or something, it's nice to put under your knees, give your lower back some support. Just see if you can arrive onto your mat. You know the room that you're in. You know where the doors are. You know where you're situated in the space. Releasing some tension in your face muscles.
Let it go.
Relaxing your shoulders, allowing them to connect with your mat, the beautiful ground supporting you on this journey. Gently inhale through the nose and fill your belly. Exhale with a sigh. Another big belly breath. Sigh it out. Yes, relax with each sigh. Another big inhale.
Sigh it out.
Bite in. Another inhale. Sigh. Letting go whatever you did before this, knowing that you showed up tonight to breathe, to connect, to let go.
Another big inhale. The sigh.
Getting ready for the first round of this journey. Bringing a gentle smile to your face, giving thanks for this moment, giving thanks for this breath. And a gentle reminder, we'll breathe in through the nose, sighs out the mouth in this round. So just follow along to the rhythm.
In and out. In and out.
Fully in and out.
Beautiful.
Breathing deeply into the belly, allowing it to move up. Yeah, each ex Exhale, relax deeper into your space. See if you can breathe in some presence.
Beautiful.
Yeah, using these first few rounds to just ground in the body. Yes, big beautiful breaths.
Eh, ah. Yes, beautiful work, everyone.
Expanding on the inhale. Letting go of tension on the exhale. See if you can breathe maybe just a little bit deeper.
And out. In. And out.
And here in a bit, we're going to move on to double speed breathing to finish out the round. But if this feels good for you, you can stay with this speed. But for the rest of us, let's speed up the breath. In, out.
In, out. Beautiful work. Yes, beautiful work, everyone.
A few more of these big breaths before we go into the first breath retention. All right, 5 more breaths.
4, 3, 2.
Last one, fully in. Holding your breath at the top.
Hold, hold, hold.
Relax your jaw, relax your face muscles. Holding on to this, you won't be here long. And now exhale with a sigh, and holding your breath the bottom, just fully coming in to this moment, to your body. Just be here now. Knowing you can take that inhale when it's your time.
Just be here a little bit longer.
Beautiful work together as a collective. Let's inhale through the nose, holding this breath at the top. Now squeezing your pelvic floor muscles, squeeze your abdominals as we ascend this energy up our spine. Continue to hold, continue to feel. And now let it out with the big sigh. Ah, yes. Big inhale. Big sigh.
Ah.
Getting ready for the second round of this journey.
All right, friends, so feeling into the body anywhere that needs to soften and release a little bit, just bringing some space into your bones, into your connective tissues. And again, we're gonna start slow and then we'll speed it up a little bit as we go.
Like this.
In, 2, 3, 4, and out, 2, 3, 4. All the way in, all the way out. Into the belly, into the chest, and out again.
Softening on the exhale. Yeah, beautiful.
Keep the breath nice and deep, all the way in, all the way out. Breathe into the bones. Soften on the exhale.
All right, a few more breaths like that, and then we're gonna speed it up.
And as always, you can stay slow if you want to stay slow.
4 more.
All right, here we go, we're gonna speed it up.
Keep it going, just a few more breaths.
Breathe for love, breathe for freedom. All the way in and all the way out.
4 more breaths. 2 more. Okay, let that out.
Take a nice deep breath all the way in. Sigh it out. And now take this next breath all the way in and hold it. Raising that energy all the way up through the spine, up into the mind, feeling your roots extend down into the earth. And when you're ready, on your own time, exhaling all the way out into emptiness.
Feeling your connection to space and nothingness. Just being empty.
Feeling the body, but also letting the body go. Just becoming the witness. Connecting with awareness and stillness. All right, friends, take a nice deep breath all the way in. Sigh it out.
Ah, beautiful.
Another deep breath all the way in. Ah, as we get ready for this next round of breath, feel into what you're breathing for. What do you need to let go of? What are you embracing in your life?
Beautiful.
Getting ready for the next round of this journey.
Yes.
Once again, we'll breathe in through the nose, out through the mouth. Just follow it along to the rhythm.
In and out. In and out. Beautiful.
And let's see on this round, we can invite in some elevated emotions. See what it's like to breathe in some gratitude. To feeling it deep within your being.
Yes. Inviting in these beautiful emotions deep within your being.
Releasing what is no longer serving us in this moment.
Just coming Hold again. Let it go. Wow, beautiful work. How?
Here in a bit, we're gonna speed up the breath, inviting in more of this energy, more of this gratitude. Just continue to feel with each deep breath. Let's go ahead and speed up the breath.
In, out. In, out. In, out. In, out.
Beautiful work, everyone. Just allow yourself to feel any sensation. Feel the sensations in your body, trusting the breath, trusting this journey. All right, few more of these deep breaths. You're all doing an amazing job.
Continue trusting the process.
All right, 5 more breaths. 4, 3, 2, last one.
Pull in.
Take a big exhale. Big breath in. Exhale out. And now a big beautiful inhale. Holding your breath at the top. Relaxing into this space, into this expansion. We're gonna stay in this inhale hold.
Just allow yourself to feel. All right.
And if you're good in this space, continue to hold just a little bit longer. But for the rest of us, let's exhale with a sigh. Yes, big inhale.
Exhale.
Fully in. Let it go. Getting ready for the next round of this journey.
So feeling the rhythm deep in your body, committing to the breath. How can you breathe in a way that brings you even more deeply into presence, more deeply into your own beautiful experience? 1, 2, 3, 4, and out.
2, 3. That's it.
All the way in, all the way out.
Breathe with the belly.
Breathe with the chest. Give love to the body. Breathe for freedom. Softening on the exhale. Soften the jaw. Soften the eyes.
Soften the tongue.
Feel your weight sinking down into the earth as you exhale. And reach for the sky with the inhale.
That's it, keep going.
Find your passion.
Breathe, breathe for your life. All right, 8 more breaths and then we're going to speed it up.
4 more. And again, you can stay at this speed or you can speed up with me.
2 more. Here we go. All right, 4 more, then we're going to slow it back down. Okay, in 2, 3, 4, and out 2, 3, 4. Again, effort on the inhale, soften on the exhale. All right, if you're feeling it, we're gonna go double time again.
Again, you can always stay slow.
It's always—
you can always stay slow. But if you're with me and you want to speed it up again, then here we go, double time. Yeah, all the way in and all the way out. Feel the power of the breath moving through you like a wave.
4 more. 2 more.
Okay, take a nice deep breath all the way in.
Side out.
Another breath all the way in. Side out again. Now take this one in and hold it. Feel that life energy rising up through the body into the mind. Stay here as long as you like. Okay, if you haven't released already, feel free to let it out in 3, 2, 1.
Ah.
And just stay at the bottom of the breath.
Relax the body.
Coming back to that connection with space.
An emptiness becoming nothing. No body, no mind, nowhere, no time.
Just stillness.
Just stillness. All right, friends, take a nice deep breath all the way in. Aah.
And another nice deep all the way.
Aah.
This next round is the last round of strong long breath, and then we'll have an integration round after that. So whatever you have left to give, however further you want to go with your breath, just invite you to take that journey.
Alright, the final round.
Final round of strong breathing. You're all doing an amazing job. Just continue to trust in the body. Trust in the breath. Let's just follow along to the rhythm of the breath.
And out.
In and out. And at this final round, you want to breathe in and out of the mouth if you feel safe, if you're experienced in breathing, you want to go a little deeper, you could begin to breathe in In and out of the mouth.
Beautiful.
Let it go. Yes, beautiful work, everyone. Coming up on the final part of this journey, allowing yourself to feel, allowing yourself to experience.
Yes, beautiful work, everyone.
Doing an amazing job. If you feel good with this speed, if this is what your body is needing Just continue to honor that. If you want to invite in some more prana, some more air, some more energy, we're going to finish this round with double speed.
In, out. In, out. In, out. In, out. Beautiful.
Invite it in. Yes, we are almost there.
A few more of these breaths. Yes. 5, 4 breaths. 4, 3, 2.
Last one, fully in. Holding your breath at the top, allowing the this energy to move up your spine into your heart center, feeling in to this energy, letting go, physical body Feel good in this space. You can continue to hold. The rest of us, let's exhale with a big sigh.
Inhale.
Exhale out. Another big inhale. Smile with the sigh out. Let's continue in this space.
This final round, we're just gonna be nice and slow. Inhaling through the nose.
Long exhales.
Inhale.
Long exhale.
Inhale. Long Another inhale.
Long exhale.
Shh. And now just allow your breathing to return to its normal rhythm.
This is your time to just be. No more doing. Just giving yourself that space to receive, to let go, just to B.
Will now die. See my heart. Is open wide. Say my heart is open wide. Wide enough to fit you inside. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Whole world can come with you. Yeah, yeah. Whole world can come with you. Yeah.
Just very gently, very slowly, come back into your body. Come back to this space. Coming back onto your mat. Nice gentle movements, waking this physical body back up. You can bring some awareness into your hands. Legs and stretch out a bit. Just reflecting on this journey, maybe there's something that stood out to to you. Maybe it was an emotion. Maybe someone came to you. Maybe even a color. Just bring that into your awareness. See if you can find some gratitude for whatever stood out this learning. There's always some space for some gratitude. And if you're lying down and it feels right, you can make your way onto your side into the fetal position. Perfect space to give yourself a big old hug. A space to say thank you.
Thank you for the breath.
Thank you for this healthy body.
Thank you for Everything is finding its gratitude.
If it feels right, come back into a seated position. Keep your eyes closed for now.
Nice gentle movements.
If you want to stay lying Fine, you can stay lying. You're going to bring your palms to heart center, bringing them together. Begin to rub, generate some heat, rubbing your hands together.
Feel the heat.
And when you feel that heat, you can gently place your hands over your eyes, feeling the warmth throughout your body. And with your hands covering your eyes, you can open your eyes now. Just gently spread your fingers, allowing the light to slowly come in, back into the space.
Welcome back, everyone. Nice to see you.
It's a beautiful face.
