Choose to Win

A short motivational YouTube monologue by Kenny Chapman arguing that consistent winners make a conscious choice to win. He contrasts winners with the "masses," emphasizes passion, daily goals, and the mantra "adapt and overcome," and uses a Sunday barbecue anecdote to show how non-winners mentally surrender parts of their lives to "Monday blues."

Hey, everybody, Kenny Chapman here coming to you with this week's video version of Freedom Friday Focus. Now, this week, I want to talk about winning, and I want to talk about choosing to win, because surely you've noticed that some people just seem to win time after time, situation after situation, regardless of economy, regardless of environment, regardless of whatever's going on, they just somehow find a way to win. I. I love working with clients like this that just have the knack and they implement and they do something when we make a suggestion or show a mirror of a performance gap in their companies. There are some people like that. Now, certainly sometimes people can have stroke of luck or something good happened to them. But winners that consistently win time after time make a conscious choice that they are going to win. They think differently than the masses. They do some things differently than the masses. I'm amazed at how, you know, how many people just live their lives as just kind of wandering through, just, you know, sheep walking, if you will, and there's just no passion. And winners bring passion. They bring excitement. They find something different. They find a way to overcome. One of the best phrases I learned out of the United States army was adapt and, and overcome, regardless of situation, regardless of what we might be facing in that first Gulf War that I was in. Adapt and overcome. But we can't look at normal people, if you will. When I say normal, I'm going to certainly, you know, I'm not normal. But we're talking about the masses, right? So don't look to people that aren't getting results that you want in your life to model yourself after. There's just no passion there. You've got to choose to win. Christy and I were recently at an afternoon barbecue on a Sunday afternoon. Glorious afternoon in western Colorado, Beautiful sun out, and we're sitting there having a, you know, having a nice drink and getting some food ready to eat. Three o' clock chimes. And one of the guys goes, oh, man, here comes the Monday blues. Bring them on. Bring on the Monday blues. And that wasn't the worst of it. Then somebody else said, oh, man. Yeah, my week. Shoot. Wow. It's going to be a drag. Yeah, man. Sunday evening, here we go. Getting ready. Then I'm like, whoa, wait a minute. What. What's going on? I mean, you're crushing the rest of your Sunday afternoon. You're losing an experience that it's still the weekend, man. Most people are living their lives between Friday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. They're not even getting their full weekend out, and then they're Going through the motions the rest of the week. That's not what winners do. Winners make a choice. Winners operate differently. Now, that's not to say that they don't lose a game here and there. They don't lose, you know, a situation. We work with some of the top technicians in the country and what we see is the. They have this winning mindset. They make a choice, they have goals every day. They put on that uniform and they get in that truck and they say, I'm going to win. Now, does that mean they never get a door slammed in their face? No, of course they do. But overall, their mindset helps them overcome. You'd be hard pressed to find a champion at any level, whether it's kind of sports or auto racing or golf. Well, golf is a sport, but team sports or individual sports or whatever, or somebody didn't lose a match or lose a game or lose several games throughout the course of a winning season. That's what it's about, my friends. It's about winning more than losing. It's about changing this right here and saying, I make a conscious choice that I'm going to win and I'm going to do whatever it takes within my integrity, my ethics, and the way that I operate to accomplish my goal. I'm Kenny Chapman, the blue collar coach. Thanks for being with me this week and until we talk again, have a better than fantastic week and I'll see you next time.
