Does getting better = getting paid... more?

Kenny Chapman argues that earning more money depends on how the market perceives your value, not how good you actually are. Marketers and salespeople shape that perception by communicating better, matching their message to the marketplace, and bringing backstage skills to the front stage.

Foreign. Are you making enough money? Of course I know the answer to that question. Everybody's barraging you right now. You're headed into the 19, the end of the new year, everything going on. I want to make money. I want to make more money. Guess what? I'm here to wreck you a little bit today. Because how much money you make has no relationship with how good you are. Mmm. That stinks a little bit, doesn't it? That's a little bit frustrating, isn't it? Some of you are lashing out, challenging me right now. No, Kenny. I am the best. Insert whatever it is. I'm the best insert whatever it is. There's so many people that I'm better than. Insert whatever it is. And guess what? You see those people making more money, having more freedom, creating more businesses, different things. Why? Because the market doesn't pay on value. Yes, we create value all the time. We work on value creation. The market pays on perception of value. Guess what? Marketers and salespeople run the world, my friend. If you want to make more money, you've got to start understanding how to match your message to the marketplace in order for them to perceive the value that you have. Doesn't matter how good you are behind closed doors. We talk often about front stage and backstage at the blue collar success group, and we talk about how what you do inside the walls of your company translates to what you do out in front of what people do. See, that's where the market perception comes in. That's why you see mediocre companies scaling every single year because they understand marketing, because they understand sales, because they understand training. And those are the things that translate to perception of value in the marketplace. Sorry. How good you are doesn't have anything to do with how much you get paid. You want to get paid more. Increase your communication to the marketplace, up your value proposition and perception, and the market will respond. I'm Kenny Chapman, the blue collar coach. Happy freed Friday. Until we talk, have a better than fantastic weekend.
