This short video (Freedom Friday Focus) by Kenny Chapman (the Blue Collar Coach) challenges the cultural norm of rewarding time and activity instead of outcomes. Using two anecdotes—the U.S. Army practice of "time and grade" promotions and a TV example from Million Dollar Listing—Chapman contrasts activity (busy-ness, showings, momentum) with true results (sales/closings/checks). He urges leaders and entrepreneurs to identify and prioritize the few actions that actually drive results, delegate non-drivers, and hold themselves accountable for measurable outcomes.

Hey, everybody, Kenny Chapman here, the blue collar coach, coming to you live with this week's video version of Freedom Friday Focus. Now, this week, I want to challenge something. I want to challenge the way that you were brought up. I want to challenge the way that your career has began. I want to challenge the way that most of the world does business, and that is by rewarding time, rewarding minutes, rewarding hours. Hours. I want you to think about results and I want you to think about how results get measured and how they get compensated for yourself. First and foremost, as entrepreneurs, as top leaders, as top managers of our organizations, we don't generally have somebody holding a, you know, staying on top of us, holding us accountable for every little thing. And we come up in a society where busy is good. I'm going to tell you something. Busy is not good. Busy doesn't matter. Some of the most effective and wealthiest people on the planet that I know personally work very little from a time perspective, but they're very effective with the results that they get. I remember when I was in the United States army, that's one of the things that drove me nuts the most was the fact that I'm just, you know, I'm watching soldiers get promoted for time and grade. How long they were in a position meant they were ready for a promotion, not how effective they were in that position, position, not kind of what kind of results they get. Now, the lovely Christie and I, we don't watch a lot of tv, but sometimes we watch some TV where we get to see some fancy houses or travel stuff this and that. And recently we were watching an episode of Million Dollar Listing where this guy had a listing for four months and this owner had promised him, we'll give you about six months to sell this thing. And he had it for four months. And he was doing all these showings and showings and showings. And then this lady called the owned the apartment, high end apartment in New York City, multi, multi, million doll. And she said, what are the results? And he said, oh, we've had a lot of activity. We've had a lot of showings, man. We've got some great momentum. Those are the kind of results we're getting right now. I feel really good about where we're going. And she looked at him and she said this. Do you even know what results are? Do you know what it means to get a result? A result to me is a sale. A result is a closing. A result is a check for this apartment. You have got zero results, you're fired. Not like Donald Trump, but she let him go because he's not producing results. Now in his world, in his mind, he's getting a lot of results because he's showing the apartment a lot, and there's a lot of activity. Activity doesn't matter. Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to step up. It's time to dig in. It's time to go. What are the things in my day, my business, what are the things that are going to drive the most? What are the things that I really need to do and be able to delegate the rest on down the line? And you focus on the driver. You're the leader. This is your responsibility, and we're here to help you. I'm Kenny Chapman, the blue collar coach. Until we talk again, have a better than fantastic week, and I'll see you next time.
