How Your Morning Ritual Can Save The Day

Kenny Chapman describes a Monday when his car got towed in Denver and how his morning routine of meditation, exercise, and journaling kept him calm enough to still show up for a client. He learned to accept what happened, then choose accountability so it doesn't happen again.

Hey, my friend Kenny Chapman here, the blue collar coach and want to touch base with you on a couple of life and business lessons that I got from what the world would consider a Monday from hell, let's be honest. Yep, yesterday morning. So bear with me here just a moment, Let me paint a quick picture for you. And then I want to leave you with a couple things to bring forward today in your life and your business. So last week, the lovely Christy and I are in Denver for a week. We do some client visits, I do some work, we celebrate her birthday. Everything's all cool, great, whatever. I need to fly to LA for a day in between there. And so one of my clients I'm at late last week, obviously really loved what I did, right? And certainly they wanted me to come back though. They wanted me to do some additional coaching and training for them. And so I did that. And what that meant was I needed to stay an extra night. Christy and I had to leave the condo that we were renting while we were there, so we needed to move. So we went to the owner's condo in lower downtown Denver. We just stayed the night there. Now there's a condo we've stayed at before, but it's been several months. And so it's one of these where there's two levels of the parking garage, right. And they look exactly the same. So let's fast forward. Christy and I get there, Sunday morning, we head out for brunch, we do our thing. Getting out. We fast forward the Monday from hell, right? Monday morning from hell. So get up, do my thing. I'm on this great morning kick, actually, I'm meditating every day, exercising, journaling, visualization, affirmations. I have this great routine going in the morning. If you want to know more about that, shoot me a message. Love to share with you. What I'm doing, it's absolutely life changing and it's part of why I'm having this conversation with you right now. So go through all that. I'm up early, ready to rock and roll, I'm out the door, ride down the elevator and my car's not there. Like, wait a minute, I know that's the spot. I've only been here a day. Okay, maybe, maybe I went. Maybe it's on P2 instead of P1, right? So let me ride on down. Oh, there's a full on vehicle in that one. Oh, no. First thought, my car's been stolen. Second thought, Kenny parked in the wrong spot. So his car's been stolen legally. Right. So I call up the owner. I'm like, here's what happened. Da, da da. I don't know what I'm gonna do, but figure it out. He tells me who to call and start looking, whatever. And so Christie gets on that. I grab an Uber, I run to the company, do my training and all this. So what's my point? My point is that Kenny would have let that miracle or that morning from hell, the Monday morning from hell, that could have ruined my entire week. You know that. And there's times in your life that it has ruined your entire week. And today could be your second Monday of this week, or it could feel like Friday all over again. I was just talking to one of my business partners a little bit ago and was like, man, I feel like I haven't connected with you for a while. And we need those connections, right? We need those things in life and in business. And here's what I know, that I could have tail spun out of control. And the way that I would have done that is by saying, why did this happen to me? Poor me. Relinquishing gratitude, allowing victim mentality to enter my psyche and my being, rather than saying, okay, what's good about this situation? So you know what I did with these technicians I was training because by the way, my suit coat was in my car. So I literally was wearing a T shirt and jeans. Never trained in front of a group of people in a professional environment without a sport coat. Didn't have one. It was in my car and I had no idea where my car was, right along with a bunch of Christie's birthday gifts that were in there, which didn't get stolen. But that's a whole other sidebar. So I don't know where my car is. I've got things that I bought for Christy for her birthday in my car. It's missing and I'm in front of these texts and I said, you know what? I could have spun out of control just like I'm sharing with you, my friend. But I didn't because of two things. And that's what I want you to take from our little time together here today. I didn't because I was willing to take the medicine as one of my great mentors, Frank Lau, talks about in regards to responsibility and accountability. Now what do I mean by that? And how can this serve you? Well, guess what? I parked in the wrong frickin parking spot. Shame on me. Guess what? I was illegally parked. As much as you know about me as being a non conformist and breaking certain laws here and there, hey, man, I was parked in the wrong spot. People got back, they didn't know who to contact. They couldn't get it. Hey, fair enough. Tow it, right? Shame on me. Now I could go. Man, what the heck? Why didn't he remind me what parking spot it was when he gave me the keys to the condo? Why didn't he say, hey, make sure you park in the right spot. They don't mess around here. They'll tow you, you, even if the garage isn't full. Okay, well, I found that out. Don't want to blame my client, my buddy that gave me the chance to stay there and work there. And so it's like, okay, is it his fault? Is it my fault? Is it the tow company's fault? Is the impound yard's fault? No, it's none of those people's fault. It's my fault. Now I got some ownership, my responsibility. If my car would have been broken, like, if they would have stolen all of Christy's birthday gifts, guess what? Me not. Then it's my responsibility. So now, from there, that's step one. Now, where I want you to go with your company, with your life, with your relationships, is to kick it up to accountability. And if you're with me live, I'll check this here in just a second to see if you have any questions or comments. And hopefully you're getting a little bit of a laugh at my expense as I go through this whole mess. But so you got to start with responsibility. And that's where you say, you know what? My life, my company, my relationship, my marriage, my children, my financial situation, my health, my life, I take responsibility for all of it. Every single angle. I take responsibility. Now you have freedom. Now, with your freedom, I'm encouraging you to choose accountability. What do I mean? Well, I take responsibility by the mistake that I made, the action that I took that got me a specific result that was taking responsibility. Now, when I take accountability, I go, okay, guess what? That's never going to happen again. Right? I don't want to go through that. Like, wait, what was the movie in the 80s? Dude, where's my car? Like, I'm ready to go to work. Oh, my gosh, my car's gone. I don't ever want that feeling again. I don't want to go back up to the condo and tell Christy, yeah, our car's gone, and I got to go to work. I hope you can deal with this and find it. Right, so what's my point? I mean, to the point of yesterday driving home and Finding a parking place. We stopped in aid in the mountain town on our way back. Driving home yesterday afternoon, and we're driving around, both of us started laughing at the same time. Mountain town packed with cars, people everywhere, construction going on. So parking is really hard to come by. And that little thought in the back of my mind went, I could probably slide in here. Parked a little bit illegal. We're just going to lunch. That's because I took accountability, and that's not going to happen. So what about you? What about you and your life, your relationships, your business? What are some areas where you go. You know what? I've been kind of dishing that. I've been saying it's the marketplace, I've been saying it's my clients, I've been saying it's my team members, I've been saying it's my spouse or my kids. Maybe. I've created all of those things in my life. Now I'm taking responsibility for it. And I'm going to hold myself I accountable to not take the same actions that got me the things that I don't desire in my life. Focus on those two things, my friend. Learn at my expense. I mean, my goodness. We got a few, few people on here with us. Let me see what we got. We got all kinds of technology stuff popping up here. Awesome. Very cool. Good to see you, too. So here's the thing, right? I could have lost a week of my life, Definitely a day. Definitely could have not impacted the techs I was working at at the highest level, not giving my client the ROI that they deserve. But I got out of my way and said, wow, this happened. And guess what? I'm going to move forward. I want the same for you. I want you to start making those decisive actions day after day. If you want to know about my morning routine, hit me up, shoot me a message. We'll connect. Until we talk again, my friends, have a better than fantastic week. Take responsibility, add accountability, and we'll see you at the top.
