Take the Right Trail

Short filmed conversation (hiking vlog) between Kenny Chapman and Christy about leadership and business framed via a hiking metaphor. They introduce Michael Gerber’s triad—vision, action, spirit—focus on the first two (vision and taking massive action), show literal scenes on a hike toward Liberty Cap, and emphasize keeping sight of goals, celebrating progress, and choosing the correct path when forks appear.

Hey, my friend Kenny Chapman here, the blue collar coach, want to touch base on something where, you know, it's been said that if you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there. It's been said in business that vision is incredibly important. When Michael Gerber, the author of the E. Myth, was training me personally in business development, coaching, and consulting, he talked about three different areas that are a must to be present in a successful business. Vision, action, and spirit. I want to touch base on those today. And first, we're going to start with vision. You got to get crystal clear about how you want this company to look, about what you want your results to be, about where you want your future to take you. So this morning, the lovely Christy and I are off to hike Liberty Cap. See the little dome way up there on top of that mountain? Just sits out there kind of by itself a little bit. That is our vision. This morning. We're about to take off, head to the trailhead, and we're going to start going. We've got the vision first. That's where we want to go. Now we're going to take the action, the massive action. Then we'll talk about spirit in a little bit.
So.
So I'll see you on the trail.
So now we've got to remember, I'm talking about vision. Well, there you can see it. You've got to keep your eye on it.
The closer you get, as you think.
About your goals, as you think about what you want to accomplish, you've got to take that massive action and keep your vision on the end game. We're heading there. Okay? So we've got our vision. We had our plan. We know where we're going. But sometimes as we go along a path, this is gonna happen. We hit a Y in the road. We hit a fork in the road. We're not sure which way to go. Our path continues on up. I mean, if you look here, see, we've already lost sight of our vision. We can't see it any longer right now. And if you take a look and pan back that way, Christy, you can see how far up we've come already. But we've got to stop and turn around to recognize that the same is true in your life and in your business. If you don't stop and realize how far you've come, you won't celebrate those successes that you have on a daily, weekly, monthly basis. So you've got to. I mean, yeah, burning sure. I'm tired, but I know where we're Going, and I know we're almost there now, sometimes. One time, Christie and I were on this hike and we said, hey, we can cut off this way, and we don't go all the way to the top. Then we found you cut off that way. It's a lot further going that way. Same is true in your life. Get clear about your destination.
Sometimes you can't see it.
Maybe it's gone for a minute. You've got to keep going. I'll see you at the top. Okay, so here we are.
Home stretch.
There it is. You've seen it from the valley. In fact, turn around here, Christian. Look down there past the golf course.
Way down there is where our house is.
Then I shot that original video this morning. So you know what happens here. We've got vision, We've got action, We've got spirit. This was our vision. We got to take massive action. You got to get on the trail. You got to go. You're going to hit ups and downs and turns and back switches. And Christie just made a good point as we were hiking along, and she said, this is so indicative of life. And in business, where you have a steep part and it feels tough and you get bogged down a little bit, but then you hit a plateau and you level off a little bit and you catch your breath. Now, you know you've got to do the work, you've got to put in the climb. There's no question about that. It's not going to happen on its own. We didn't just pop up here. We had to do the work and make the effort, using the energy to get here. The same is true in your life and business. You got to put in the work. Now also, that doesn't mean we didn't stop, catch our breath, grab a little bit of water, take a little break here and there along the way. That's why your free days are important. That's why it's important to disconnect, to get charged up again as the entrepreneur, as the leader in your business, in your life, in your family, and in your home. So, you know, we've got the vision. We know where we're going. We've taken the massive action, and then it's about spirit. It's about how you go. We could be going, man, I hate this. It's so frustrating. Or we can have the spirit and go, man, look at this. Just look how gorgeous it is out here. I mean, are you kidding me? So we have a choice. Every day you've got the same choice. If you're tired of going it alone. Get on this trail with us. If you're not a part of one of our coaching clubs yet, what are you waiting for? You know, we've got clients from all the other organizations out there. We're doing something different. We would love to help you get clear and help you along the trail. I'll see you on the other side, my friends.
