The Correct Customers Matter

Kenny Chapman explains why business owners need a precise customer avatar. He attended a $10,000 coaching event in Newport Beach where Tesla cars were offered as product placement, a perfect example of knowing exactly who you're selling to and how to reach them.

Hey, everybody, Kenny Chapman here, the blue collar coach, coming to you with this week's video version of Freedom Friday Focus. Now this week I want to talk to you about something that's very near and dear to all of our hearts. That's our customers, right? We can't exist without them. They pay all the bills, they generate the profit, they take care of employees checks and their benefits and all those types of things. And sometimes we don't spend enough time really narrowing down to who our customer is. The correct customer really matters. So let me ask you a question. Do you know specifically exact target demographic? Can you call them by name? My mentors often refer to talking about customers in the way of an avatar. Can you specifically name one of your customers that you say, wow, if our entire database was filled with people like this, that shop like this, that live like this, that are in certain neighborhoods, in certain demographics, drive certain vehicles, send their kids to certain levels of school, all this information exists so much more in today's world, we have so much information now with the Internet in play, of course, we've got drones flying overhead collecting all this information, right? Okay, maybe not drones, but, well, they're on the way, right? But here's the thing. Do you know what specifically who they are and more importantly, where they are? How do you get in front of them? Recently, the lovely Christy and I were at a high end coaching event where we get coached and trained. It's $10,000 a ticket for this seminar. And all of a sudden on day two, we get out of the session and they have Tesla motor cars set up. They're there and they're offering free test drives. Anybody that was at the conference can go and drive. And we said, hey, I've always wanted to drive a Tesla. Living in small town western Colorado, there's not many of those cars around. I want to check it out. So we hop in and we test drive. We learn more about it, we go through the process and think about it. Do they know who their customer is? Yes. We're at this beautiful resort in Newport Beach, California. There's high end ticket and they put customer, they put their product in front of potential customers. Think about your own base, think about what you're doing, think about your target demonstration demographic and speak specifically to them as if you only have one of them. I'm Kenny Chapman, the blue collar coach. Until we talk again, have a better than fantastic week and I'll see you next time.
