Which Mine Matters...

A short YouTube video by Kenny Chapman (the 'Blue Collar Coach') filmed at a mining shaft in Tip Top, Arizona. Chapman uses the town’s mining-history and boom/bust lifecycle as a metaphor to urge viewers to identify and pursue their personal 'mineshaft'—their goals or opportunities—by sharpening tools, choosing roles, and adapting to change (noting the town’s founding in 1874 and closure in 1921).

Hey, my friends, Kenny chapman here, the blue collar coach, coming to you from a mining shaft in the middle of nowhere, arizona. So let me talk to you for a moment here. We're in tip top, arizona. There's this mine shaft here. We're riding four wheelers. We're out here with the crew. Kristen, somewhere around the corner. We got mike and heather here. As we turn around, Brendan, our awesome guides here. Christie's behind the camera so she can't film right now. But as we come on over here, christie, if you will, I want you to think about this, and I want you to think about what your mine is. So here. Somebody found something at one point. A strain of something, an opportunity for something. And there was a time. This town was founded in 1874, and it came, like many boom towns, it boomed up, and it got to the point of 30,000 people living here. Come on over here. Don't, don't, don't. There's not enough insurance. Christie's not going to run me off the edge here. Okay. So as you kind of scan down here, it might be really hard to see on video, but there's little dwellings and little rock outcroppings and different things. There's another mine shaft across the way here. And if we come on out here, get out here, and you can see the entrance to town. Rumor has it it's the oldest brewery in arizona. Mike and I wish it was open today, but that's not going to happen. And here's what I want to get back to. Think about it. People come from all over the desert, Arizona. Y. They're chasing a goal. They're chasing a dream. They're driven. They're looking to provide for their family. They're looking to improve their situation, their life. What about you? What's your mind now? You're connected. All these billions of people, you're connected. You have an opportunity. You don't have to get on horseback and get in wagons and do all the different types of things in order to chase your mine shaft. What are the tools? What's your pickaxe? How are you sharpening those tools when you show up at the site? What's the job that you have within that? Are you at the laborer role? And if you are, that's totally fine. But what's your next step as you want to grow throughout the community? They shut this town down in 1921. Had its time. Nobody knows for sure why they went. I'm sure there's different things. I haven't studied the entire history of the town, but at one time it was the third largest in the entire state of Arizona. That wasn't that long ago. It was founded before Phoenix was. What's my point? Things change. 2018 is a year of rapid change. 2018 is your opportunity to zero in and really get clear about what's your mineshaft going to be. You can pick that entrance to anything you want. What's it going to be, my friends? Ask the question, then the answer comes. I'm Kenny Chapman, the blue collar coach from Tip Top, Arizona. Until we talk, have a better than fantastic day.
