Create Explosive Brand Loyalty with Gamification

Kimberly Hobscheid shows how simple gamification like badges and status levels build loyalty. Her community Entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel uses these tactics with 1,000 members. Xbox and airline VIP programs prove the same mechanics work at any scale.

Hey, folks, this is Kimberly Hobscheid coming to you from the Xbox Plaza in Los Angeles, California. Today, I'm actually recording in Xbox Plaza because I was over there at the LA Convention center and I was at a convention and then I walked over here to go grab coffee real quick. But while I was walking by the Xbox Convention or the Xbox Plaza, it made me think of a conversation I'd had with a mentee recently regarding gamification of their product or service. So they actually have a really cool service that they have. And. And it's an engaged group. It's a community of people very much like Entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel. And we were talking about the gamification aspect of Entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel and some of the other groups that we're in where they get to play along and do cool things and earn badges. We have several people who've earned badges for community engagement in Entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel because they start conversations, so they're conversation starters. We have people that are founders who helped create Entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel. So thanks to them for making it as big as it is now. I think we're almost at a thousand people in the group at this point, and it's just growing and growing. But when we were talking about gamification, I think Xbox is a really good example of that. Really creating something that creates fun and joy and excitement around your product or service. Some of the early examples of gamification were sort of awards programs or points programs from airlines. As a matter of fact, one of the airlines that put out that red rope really early on for their VIPs was an example of gamification. Like, if you earn this status, if you're able to do and engage this much, then we will give you this extra special treatment. Now, how much did that cost them to put out a little red rope to segregate off one group of people from another group of people to make them feel special. It didn't really cost them anything at all, but it was an opportunity for people to join and engage more and increase their loyalty to their product or service. Now, gamification is all kinds of things with electronic badges or opportunities to win and engage and do more cool, fun stuff. It doesn't actually have to cost a lot. It just has to make sure that people have fun doing it and engage with your community. All right, so this is a really great tip to be able to increase your loyalty, your brand loyalty, and your customer engagement. So if you have a way to engage with your clients or your potential clients, it's a great way to have them. Learn more about your product or service, engage with you, play with the community. Have fun doing it. Create joy and momentum around your business and your brand is gamification. Alright folks, this is Kimberly Haupshead with Entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel.
