Crowe Clips - 2 Reasons Speakers FAIL to Land the Speaking Gig

Short YouTube clip by Kimberly Crowe advising entrepreneurs on how to land speaking engagements. She identifies two main reasons entrepreneurs fail to secure stages: (1) they don't ask to be on stages (podcasts, web summits, radio, TV), and (2) they fail to follow up after initially asking. She promotes Speakers Playhouse (free weekly event) as a resource to connect with show hosts.

Hey entrepreneurs, are you trying to get on more stages to let people know who you are and what you're up to in the world? To have other people's mediums and other people's stages be able to produce your content so that you can get seen and heard in a bigger way. Good for you. Great job. That is a great way to be able to grow your know, like and trust with a larger audience. All right, folks, I'm Kimberly Crowe and I'm the founder of Entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel and the co host of Speakers Playhouse. And I'm all about getting entrepreneurs on stages so that they can share their message with the world and stop being the best kept secret and start getting a larger following and a wider audience that absolutely loves what you do. So if you are trying to get on stages and you're not having success, it may be because of one of these two main reasons that most entrepreneurs do not land the stage. So the first one is they fail to ask for it. That's right. There are lots of podcasts out there right now looking for guest experts. Believe it or not, there are people that come to me looking for guest experts every single week to talk about certain topics. Now, the topics are wide and varied, so whatever your topic is, it probably has a stage waiting for it. So don't get too nervous about what kinds of things that you're talking about. Your message needs to be out there in a bigger way, so have confidence to be able to do that. That's not the problem. The problem is that the entrepreneurs and coaches are not asking for the stage. They're not reaching out to the podcasters or the web summit hosts or the radio show hosts or even TV show hosts that are looking for guest experts to interview on their shows. And they're not reaching out. So failure to ask for the stage is number one. That is the reason most entrepreneurs are not getting on stages. The second reason is failure to follow up once they do ask for the stage. So as an entrepreneur that has a st stage, as somebody who books speakers on a regular basis, as a matter of fact, at any given time, I usually have about 500 speaker openings that I'm trying to book for. So plenty of stages to get opportunity to speak on. That said, the second reason that entrepreneurs don't get on those stages is because they don't follow up. So once they make that initial reach out and say, hey, I'm interested in being on your stage, what does it take to be able to get on your stage? If we give you the information on how to do that, like fill out this form or go to this website or do this thing or send me your headshot, send me your talk title. Those are the kinds of things we generally ask for. And the failure to follow up will fail to get you on a stage. All right, so the two main things that you gotta do anytime you want to get on a stage is number one, ask for it and number two, follow up with the event host. I'm Kimberly Crowe. I'm the founder of entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel and the co host of Speakers Playhouse. Speakers Playhouse is designed specifically to get you in front of show hosts that are looking for guest experts. We'll see you next time. Cheers.
