Crowe Clips - 3 Things That You Should Put in Your Talk Title

A short video by Kimberly Crowe advising speakers how to craft talk titles that get booked. She recommends three elements: clarity about the topic, naming the target audience in the title, and including a relevant number (e.g., '4 key things') to increase appeal to stage bookers. The video also promotes her work (Entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel) and the Speakers Playhouse program.

What are three things that every talk title needs in order to get to the top of the list for any person who's booking stages? Hi folks, I'm Kimberly Crowe, the founder of Entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel and the co host of Speakers Playhouse. I'm very excited today to talk to you about three things that you should put in a talk title in order to make it super sexy for show hosts. And the reason that we grab them is because they usually have one, two or all three of these things in them. So number one that you want in your title is clarity. We want to be very clear on what it is that you're going to be speaking to our audience on. Right. So while clever is interesting and intrigue is curious, if we can't figure out what you're going to be talking to our audience about, then we're not going to book you. All right, so number one is be clear on what you're going to be speaking about. Number two thing that you want to put in your talk title is make sure that you include your target audience. Now this is a pro tip. Not everybody does this, but it is something that is a winner just about every time. So if you have a talk title that has the word of our target market in it, we're probably going to put you at the top of the list of people we're going to book. For example, if you say my talk on blah blah blah for entrepreneurs or for coaches or for fourth grade teachers and you already know what my target market is, then go ahead and put that in your talk title. Now if you give a talk like let's say you're talking about something that's in the news today. ChatGPT. Right. You're teaching on ChatGPT. If you're an expert on that, good for you. That's awesome. That's a great subject to be talking about, whether it's a positive or a negative about ChatGPT, that's a hot topic right now and definitely let us know that that's what it's about because that speaks to clarity. But if you say the thing that you need to know about ChatGPT as an entrepreneur or as a coach or as a fourth grade teacher, if you put that on the end of your talk title, you're going to go to the top of our list if that's our target market. So find out what the target market is that the speaker booker is booking for and what their audience is going to be and then just include that in your talk title. I don't know why more Speakers don't do this. It's a really big pro tip. And it works a lot of the time. I won't say 100% of the time, but it does put you at the top of the list many, many times over. The people who are just having sort of a blase kind of a talk on leadership for anyone, right? Or even chatgpt for everyone. Right? That could be something that you could really narrow down and be like, this is who it's for. And then we know you're solving a problem for our audience. And the third thing that I recommend that you put in your talk title is a number. What? That's right, a number. And it can be any number, but it should be relevant to your talk title. So, for example, it could be the four key things you need to know about ChatGPT if you're an entrepreneur, or it could be the seven pillars of using ChatGPT properly as a speaker, or it could be the 365 prompts that you could use to create new web pages as an entrepreneur. So if you do something like that and you put a number in the title, it will rise to the top of our list as speaker bookers. That's what we're looking for. So we hope that you guys put that in your talk title the next time you apply for one of our stages. All right, folks, I'm Kimberly Crowe.
