Crowe Clips - Getting Feedback vs Criticizing Yourself

Kimberly Crowe says stop listening to your own recordings and picking yourself apart. Get other people to watch instead. They'll miss the tiny things you obsess over and point out actual fixable problems. Fix what they flag, defer the big stuff, and keep moving.

Done is better than perfect, right? To get it out there. And the answer, can I do the recording first? Yes, of course you can. It's your stage, your choice, however you want to do it. I personally believe that the more you spend on recording, the more you'll second guess yourself and the more you do live, it's already done, so you don't have to worry about it. A lot of actors and actresses will teach you to, like, record yourself and then hear yourself give your. Give your talk and then evaluate and then criticize yourself. There is no worse criticism than you, right? You're going to listen to it. You'll be like, oh, I hate my voice. Oh, I hate that. Oh, I did that wrong. And then you'll freeze because of your own criticism. My suggestion is get it out there. Have other people criticize them. They won't even notice 90% of what you noticed. And then the 10% that they do notice might be something completely different that you didn't even see. And it might be something that is easy enough to fix, right? If you get sued, the first thing you do is you respond to only the things they talked about, right? Like, you keep it totally limited in scope and you feel. And like, if they're complaining that, like, if you're a landlord and you're like, oh, my gosh, the foundation is falling apart, we're going to be in a lot of trouble. And they're like, you know, your sprinklers are broken. Okay, well, just deal with the sprinklers.
Okay? Same principle on this. Like, when you get feedback, just deal with the car part they're talking about, right? Just deal with the sprinklers, fix that, then just move forward, right? And you can fix the foundation another day. But. But just move forward with. With what they're talking. When you criticize yourself, you get it all, you know, all the things you did wrong and you're not nice to yourself, right? So I highly recommend starting with if you want to. It's your show. Start with recorded if you want to, but don't just listen to it to yourself. Have other people listen to it and give you positive feedback on it. Or get it. Just get it out there and see what people say. You'd always delete it later, right? Your podcast is. And even on Facebook, even if it's on Facebook, and you're like, that was a complete disaster and I've got to hit delete. If you ever delete anything off Facebook and you weren't drunk when you did it, you're over criticizing yourself. I'm just going to tell you that right now, right?
