Done is Better than Perfect

Kimberly Crowe says new creators should launch instead of waiting for perfect. She tells a story about a woman stuck on starting a blog, then shows how to turn everyday conversations, like ones about sustainability, into content across blogs, video, or podcasts.

Hey, folks, it's Kimberly Hobschegg with Entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel. I had a really great breakfast today with a bunch of really amazing women, and we were brainstorming different ideas about business, and one of them was talking about wanting to start a blog. And she had a bunch of really great ideas that were just personal passions of hers that she really cared about. And she was like, I don't really know where to start, if I should start on this one or if I should start on that one, or which angle should I take? You know, should I. Should I do it this way or that way? Should I put up categories? How should I do it? And one of my favorite phrases for anybody who is starting a new either an entrepreneur business or just a new venture of any kind, and it could just be personal and fun is done is better than perfect. So you can get caught up forever hanging on to information that you really want to get out there because it's not perfect yet, because you're not quite sure yet, and you're not really sure where to start. Or if you start here, is it going to look stupid? Or if you start there, is it going to be the wrong place to start? And that. That's all judgment. And you just got to set that aside for a few minutes and realize that done is better than perfect. So once you get it out there, you're going to want to change it anyway. You're going to want to do a second and a third and a fourth, and then it's going to start getting on a roll. My suggestion for you is to start with what's happening in your life right now. So she had some really great information in her own personal life that she wanted to write about about sustainability and eating whole foods and all kinds of really cool things for the environment. And I asked if she had recently had a conversation with a friend about it. And then she started talking, and off she went on this really great topic about sustainability. And I was like, great, there's your blog right there. So when you are right in the middle of life, consider that if you just produce data from this or content from this life that you're having, that it will be a lot easier than trying to have life and then also develop content. So, for example, right now, this story is about something that happened to me in life, and I'm producing content about it so that it can be out there rather than waiting to think, Hmm, I wonder what people want to learn. So that's my message for today. Done is better than perfect. Produce content from your life. It's going to be a lot of fun. If you get it out there. You can do it in videos, you can do it in blogs, you can do it in just, just writing. You can do it in a variety of different ways. Podcasting is a lot of fun. If you have any methodology for getting your message out there, just get it out there, get your content out, because somebody doesn't know all the stuff that you know, and believe it or not, your message is super important. So trust yourself and get it out there. Done is better than perfect. Cheers.
