How to Create an App for your Business

Robert Evans built Ampex to make app development affordable for small businesses, since custom apps typically cost $75k or more. The platform lets entrepreneurs create and monetize their own apps. Evans is hosting a two-day event in San Diego on December 12-13 with 11 speakers and networking.

Hey folks, it's Kimberly Haupsheid with entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel. Oh my gosh, I'm excited. Today I have Robert Evans with me and we're going to talk about an event that's upcoming in San Diego. Robert is the owner and co founder of Ampex, which is a marketing application tool where you can actually have an application for your business and use it for marketing your business. He's got all kinds of information about it that he shared with us. I went to his event in Phoenix. It was phenomenal. He had some great speakers with some really cool ideas and he's coming to San Diego. So I'm super excited. Rob, welcome.
Thank you, Kimberly. It's awesome to be here and it was so great having you in Phoenix. You totally rocked it.
Well, I'm excited. I'm actually speaking in San Diego as well at one of your event. At your event and it's upcoming in the first part of December. When's it going to be?
So yeah, Ampex is December 12th and 13th, which is a Thursday and Friday. Two full days of learning how to move your business into the mobile app space and leverage that at a very high level.
Absolutely incredible. And I know that a lot of people are like, hey, I'd love to have an app for my business. I definitely want to do that. And they're right in between. I'm going to learn how to be an app builder and build it myself and I'm going to pay 25 to $75,000 for somebody to build it for me. And you have reached into this amazing space and made it possible for the entrepreneur solopreneur to have their very own app at a very reasonable cost. So share a little bit about that.
Yeah, it's funny because I started this business because I was looking for my, my other businesses that I have. I've been an entrepreneur my whole life and I've been in the personal development field for about 20 years. And so I've different in different capacities, but I really specialized in online marketing, digital marketing. But I couple years ago I was looking at what are my options now for sharing my business and my message with people. And I discovered I wasn't really inspired by what I used to do and what everybody else is doing. Right. Email marketing has become, you know, cumbersome and ineffective. Social media marketing has become crowded and inexpensive. And that's those. Some of those things are not. I'm not even into. I wanted to be passionate about it. So when I did start doing research on mobile apps, I was astounded. By the difference in what I could do in a mobile app and the engagement and conversion and building of a much larger tribe than I could in any other platform out there. And so I was gung ho, I was, I was ready. I sat down and I spent a weekend architecting out the perfect app that delivered content, membership portal, I could create and deliver E courses and viral marketing tool. All these things that I wanted it to do. And I went out and got price quotes. Then I, that's when I reality came back.
Like you said, the lowest price point on this app that I want to develop was $75,000.
That's great.
And went up over 100,000. And then it made sense to me because I don't see that many companies or individuals like us, entrepreneurs have their own mobile apps. We have the Tony Robbins and the Brian Tracy's and those people that have it. But small businesses, entrepreneurs, authors, speakers, experts don't. They can't afford it, it's too expensive.
Or it's a time suck. I mean, and it'll never be built up to a professional level. If they do it through some sort of quickie like let's throw an app there, it won't do what they want it to do. It won't be the level that they want it to be.
Yeah. And so yeah, you get cheap apps, you get cheap results, you don't get results that you want. And we had, we designed this, I designed this so that it would do all the things in all the right ways. So I, and rather than being kind of defeated by that because I didn't, I don't know about you, but I didn't have an extra 75 grand sitting around. I decided to partner up with my brother who is a professional app developer. I convinced him to quit his high paying job and start a business together. And we, we built a platform that, that same exact platform that I got the $75,000 quote for. We built that, but we built it in a way to where we could turn around and brand it and replicate it for other businesses.
Amazing.
And instead of them spending tens of thousands of dollars, we charge a lot a small licensing fee. And now they have a mobile app. But here, Kimberly, here's the biggest thing. Most people don't know what the potential of the app space is because since it's not out there because their competitors and other people that you see are not doing it, people aren't aware that this exists and that it can multiply by tenfold your effectiveness. And so that's what this event is all about. It's about teaching you what, why apps, why now? What's the difference in engagement, conversion, how all the different ways that you can share your message and reach people and make money. And the event is about teaching that whether or not you do an app or not, coming to this event will absolutely change your understanding of what's possible in the world now.
And you have some amazing speakers that are going to be there as well, talking about some other pieces of technology and other reasons behind it. So tell me a little bit more about who's going to be there. I mean, I know I'm speaking and it's going to be phenomenal.
The flagship talk is of course, Kimberly. Right. And she's the rock star. And so what we have, we have Kimberly, we have topics that cover. We have Travis Richardson, who talks about marketing automation and creating funnels and how you link those into apps. We have Drew Berman, who talks about the law of collaboration. And as, as Kimberly knows, we do a massive amount of collaboration at these. At this event, we have Greg Sanders, who is the CEO of EasyCards, which is another digital platform that we integrate in with our apps.
Super cool.
Yep. We have Paul Fink, who is the maverick millionaire and he talks about the law of compensation. Don Cody, he's the CEO of LifeWorks University, which teaches people how to leverage the power of masterminds. Lorenzo Hickey talks about bank code, which is a. Is kind of a personality trait that helps you understanding that helps you why they buy.
Right. Figuring out why people buy. Yep.
Lauren Rubenstein is going to talk about the Social Buzz Club. Becky and Natalie will be talking about publishing and that sort of thing. So we've got about 11 speakers speaking in those two days.
Fantastic. And it's just two days. It's a Thursday and a Friday. Again, the dates are the 12th and 13th. Is that right?
12Th and 13th.
Yes, 12th and 13th of December. So upcoming. So mark your calendars.
Now.
We actually have a link for you so that you can buy the tickets at a discount for the people in entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel. So that is, we're going to give you the link which we'll post below, but it's entrepreneursrocketfuel.com event Ampex, which is Ampx. And if you go to that link, you're going to be able to get the event at a discount code. Is that right? If they enter. Maybe if they enter Rocket or something like that.
Yeah, yeah. So basically, the cost, the event, they get it at half the cost if they put in Rocket as the coupon. Code. And that also includes lunch on both days.
Who said there's no such thing as a free lunch? All right, maybe not.
There are two free lunches, right?
Awesome. Lunch included.
And that's great because in Phoenix, we had an opportunity to socialize with a lot of the people at the lunch and be able to mix and mingle with other people at the crowd. And it's great for networking as well, because you're talking to other entrepreneurs who are going through some of the same stuff you're going through and coming up with ideas around apps, around marketing, around getting your message out. There were tons of great opportunities to do that. So bringing in lunch for the crowd is just gonna make that amp way up. I'm excited.
Yeah. Yeah, exactly. So it's a good. It's a good time. I guarantee that whoever comes to this will learn things that they never knew existed, and they will get ideas on how they can, number one, reach more people, number two, have greater impact, and number three, make more money because of the mobile app space.
Absolutely. Well, we are building with you now for Entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel, some really cool things for the future. So you're actually going to see the Entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel app coming soon to you, courtesy of Rob and his team. We're going to be creating because I can definitely see the value in it. I can definitely see what's going to be able to be created for this community. To be able to have an app to go to and have everything at your fingertips is going to be phenomenal. And you need an app for your business. You need an app for your business. It's going to be totally cool. So come find out why. Come see a bunch of really cool speakers, share information about how you can build your business and take it to the next level, and add rocket fuel to your business by creating an app. Rob, thanks so much for being here with us today.
