Hey, folks, it's Kimberly Haubshad with Entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel. One of the things I get as a question from time to time is from people who are struggling with a business that they are doing, but not something that they love doing, but they are good at it, right? That it is sort of paying the bills and that they found success in it. Oftentimes this is a position in corporate or something that they are doing for a living, but not something that they're living to do that they're really, really enjoying. And their question is, you, should I take that risk? Should I leave what I'm really good at and getting paid well for, or getting paid at least some for, and jump into that which I know that I'm going to love, but there's no guarantees.
And that is a tough call. I will say that I know a lot of my friends and myself included, I was at corporate for many years. I say that I was at corporate for 17 years, 15 of which were good. And I did enjoy going to work every day until one day I just really did. And I hung in there for another two years, which I probably shouldn't have done. But I was good at it, right? I had gotten many promotions. I was at a director level. I was an influencer within the organization. It was a Fortune 1000 company, very well known. I had a lot of clout and a lot of push, but it just wasn't something that I was enjoying doing. I didn't enjoy the politics in this particular company that had changed. I didn't enjoy the mission and the vision that they were putting out there into the world and the way they were working with their customers. Not that they were doing anything wrong, just that it didn't jive with what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go. And taking the leap into entrepreneurship full time can feel like a very risky venture. And I would share with you that it is a risky venture. However, it may not be as risky as betting on the idea that you can work in this corporate job or a job that you don't love long enough to be able to afford the chance to do something in the future that you really want to do. It may be worth the gamble to actually take the step forward now and do what you really, truly love doing and what you were brought here into this world to be able to create without just doing, carrying somebody else's mission forward. Right? There's a quote from William Shedd that says ships are safe in a harbor, but that's not what ships were built for. If that's not what you were built for, if you weren't brought here on this earth to do what it is that you're doing that you're making money at, take a good, hard, long look at that. Find out what the risk truly is. Is the risk that you are going to get involved in something and it may not pay as quickly as you wanted it to. It's possible that that could happen. But it's also possible that with your love and passion and drive and mission and vision, that you're going to bring something forward that nobody else in this world can bring. And you are responsible for being able to have that music be set free into the world and create the change that you're brought here to create. Not only that, with your vision and passion and mission and drive behind it, how can it not be an ultimate success? I'm not going to tell you that you're not going to hit roadblocks, of course, we all do. But that's what this community is here for. Entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel is here to support you through those roadblocks and get you to the other side and get your business launched to all new heights. If you're hesitating and you're wondering if it's too big of a risk, consider that it may be too big of a risk to bet that you are going to be able to do it sometime in the future and then make enough money to be able to do what you really love long term. I would suggest that maybe you take a long, hard look at that and figure out why you shouldn't start doing that right now. I'm Kimberly Hobscheid with Entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel.
