Welcome to my podcast, The Red Door. Where humans share their stories. Our stories are what bring us together, connect us, and how we feel a little less lonely, giving you the reminder that you are not on this journey by yourself. As a collective, we share emotions and feelings, not the same way, but we each know what anger feels like, frustration, abandonment. Security, and what shit is fake or not in alignment with us. It is my mission to provide a platform for you to get vulnerable and share your experiences with the world. There is always at least one person listening who will be transformed by your message. Remember that the next time imposter syndrome pops up and tells you you aren't ready. Or you aren't good enough, or that no one cares. Tell that voice to fuck off and then DM me. I'm here for you now and always, not just to hype you up, but to guide you down a path of mindset shifts so you can do the holy shit, this is hard inner work and create the life you love. If you're ready, enter here.
But yeah, I'm just excited because even the last— I'm like, how many people did I say I told? 16. It might not have been 16, but I swear, like, everybody I saw, it felt like I was like, oh my gosh, have you heard of Human Design? And none of them had, because I told you I had like signed up for Jovian Archive or whatever that was.
Yeah.
And so I'm just excited for you to tell people a little bit more about it, just kind of dive in and just explain how you found out about it or how you learned about it, and then what was kind of the driving force to get you like fully immersed in human design.
So a few years ago, I, I've always had a passion for kind of self-development and personal development, uh, inner work. And a few years ago, a friend of had sent an email that caught my attention. It was something along the lines, the subject of 3 myths and 1 life-changing truth, and, uh, captured my attention. And I decided, uh, it was a coaching program she was, uh, talking about, and it helped introduce me to Human Design. That was the foundation of our coaching program. It came at a time when I was also not only doing inner work, but really there were some big shifts going on in my life and big disruptions as well, um, in my family, my marriage, and eventually my job, where I just knew sometimes the things that I was doing or the ways that I was being or taught to be was not really what I wanted to do. Like, one example, I had been in a career for many years, uh, gone to school went to school, studied, graduated, and, um, got a job. And something always tugged at me to do something different than a 9 to 5. And so this life coaching program that I was a part of kind of helped us think outside the box of our, what we call conditioning, of how we're taught to do things. And because Human Design was the foundation of the program, I started to understand that I have a unique energetic blueprint and I am uniquely built And so the way things that I— the way that I may do things is not the way that somebody in my family may be doing something. So that really opened up my mind and I just had a passion now for sharing that knowledge and this system called Human Design with others so that they can understand their uniqueness and not have to do everything the way everybody else is.
I love that. And I think that I felt that as well when we went over my chart is that so many things made complete sense and almost like tied loose ends where I had my entire life felt a certain way. And then once it was laid out in front of me, I was like, oh, okay, like this makes total sense. And so it was a very like comforting, peaceful feeling in a sense. Did you get that when you found when you did your chart?
On the surface, when you learn about Human Design, you realize the way that I, for example, teach it is I realized what my energy centers were like and how, for example, I'm really affected like you with an open emotional solar plexus. So I can take on other people's emotions and that's really not mine. So it made me realize things like that. The piece that I needed to practice more was what we call in Human Design our strategy. And for 70% of the population like me, unlike you, uh, I am meant here to do work and be busy, but to wait for the right opportunities. And that took some getting used to because, um, it wasn't something that I was doing. I was of this manifestor mindset of you just gotta do it. You gotta go out and create, go implement, go get things done. And actually 70% of the population is meant to sort of become more of the magnet for opportunities to come to you, which are coming to you all the time. But when we're aware of it and our radar is up, for me, that was something new to learn. Um, something, uh, what we call the generator type needs to do. And that, that took some learning to do. And I think in this last year I have mastered that.
Mm, yeah, I really— with mine, it was interesting because I think that, which I mean, I believe in the law of attraction, but there's also law of action, right? So you definitely just sit on the couch and like hope that those opportunities land in your lap. Like, you actually have to work for it. However, when we looked at my chart, it was like wait for opportunities. And like, that's what you and I have in common. And I could even look back at even just the past year and think, oh, that has already kind of started to happen, where I just almost took like a backseat, still showed up, was still taking action, but those opportunities didn't come to me until a little bit later. So I had already been taking the action and had been still doing, you know, all the things that I wanted to be doing, but I just didn't like push it or I didn't like push for it. So I think that that was like a, a nice little reminder for me to just trust, and it just kind of brought it all, all together. So anyways, it was very interesting for me.
Yeah. And, and let me just explain a little bit just in case any of your listeners are not aware of, uh, this system we're talking about and how you're waiting for invitations and I'm waiting for opportunities. Human Design is based on your birth date. So you run what's called a chart, similar to astrology, but it looks at your energetic blueprint. And it's what you were encoded with, what you were built as, like your operating system. So it doesn't change, it remains the same. But then, of course, through our lives, we're conditioned and we learn certain things and beliefs. And some of that even is passed down through our generations from ancestors and lineage and culture. But when we look at that energetic blueprint, we can start to understand how we uniquely operate, again, based on our birth date and that day that we came here in this human form. And when you look at the population, 9% of the population are built as what's called a Manifestor. They can create and implement and implement. And in our society, that phrase, just do it. They are the ones who can go out and make things happen without waiting. So to speak. And most of the rest of the types in Human Design, there's 5 of them. The others are generator, manifesting generator, projector, and reflectors. Those types, and again, that's about 91% of the population, can't be pursuing things. They can. I mean, we're taught to do that. But if they are, they'll either burn out, their energy will feel depleted, things won't happen very easily. And this is where I have this mission of helping people to stop overworking because we will try to make it happen and we have to work extra hard and put in extra effort. And that's what society teaches us. But what if there were a different way? So in Human Design, if you identify your type, like I mentioned, I'm a generator, you're what's called a projector, which is 20% of the population. And I'm a generator, which is about 35. Manifesting generators are the other 35. Then these other types that are not manifestors, big capital M, are here to what I would say become a magnet for opportunities and invitations that align with their energy. And like you mentioned, a little bit like law of attraction, but in terms of waiting, you're not sitting on the couch doing nothing. You're really doing the inner work. You're doing things like preparing your business. You may be building your business, building your website first, for example. You may be doing self-care and making sure that you are taking care of yourself. And putting yourself as a priority, putting your energy as a priority and that alignment so that when the right things come to you, then you are ready to take it on. Your energy's kind of charged up for it. And that's a different way of operating than again, what we're taught. For me, self-care has to be a priority because self-care is one of the quickest ways for our energy to get aligned when we're doing something that we love. A self-care I'm talking about is something that we enjoy doing. It may be a walk out in nature. It may be knitting, meditating. It could be clearing self-limiting beliefs, things that like really make us feel more complete, more whole, and really light us up. So that, that's my quick overview of this is the system we're talking about and why we're, we're talking about waiting and law of attraction in a way.
Yeah, so people would want to learn their Human Design in order to kind of lead a life that's, that's best suited for their type, correct? Like that, that's why.
Definitely. That's a great way to put it. I'm going to use that in my marketing. It's, um, it's a better way for them to operate, so to speak, to align, to thrive, to what I would say, live with more purpose. Create more wellness, improve your relationships, create more success, and even generate more freedom in your life—time, freedom, wealth—and any kind of abundance that you really want, what you desire. It almost becomes this, again, magnet when you work with the system to be who you truly are meant to be. I love that.
So I'm thinking of— when I think of Human Design and other tools that you can utilize really in your everyday life and in relationships, I think of— and I think we talked about this— like zodiac or love languages. So it's very helpful when you are thinking about your relationships to also know that person's love languages or love language. I guess we could also have multiple and zodiac too. Like so many people are like, oh, like you're a Scorpio, I'm a Taurus. Like this is how we work together. So is it important to also know like your partner's design and your children's design? How could you utilize and, and how could you like use that information to help you in those relationships?
Yeah, that's a great question. And I do wanna mention that, like you just pointed out, there are many tools in the toolbox.. And I think it's great the more that you can look at different ways of who you are, like astrology, like not only love languages, but Myers-Briggs and all of that. There's personality assessments that kind of gauge, you know, what were you taught? How were you taught in this world? What do you end up doing as your habits and your beliefs? Human Design is just one of those tools, but it's about your energetic blueprint that you were encoded with. And if you do look at, for example, your family members, it can really bring up a lot of perspectives about them that you didn't realize, and that they actually have different ways of operating, different energy. Often, again, in our society, we're taught that we want to be around like-minded people and people who act like us and have the same beliefs and values. And, and that certainly can be important. But when you also recognize the uniqueness of others, and I think this is how we're shifting in life, we are starting to recognize that we're all part of a collective. And we all want to be part of a group or a tribe, if I can use that word, you know, or, or a community that's again, similar and, and values and beliefs. But once we realize we're all really in this together as a collective, and we are all unique, and that uniqueness is what actually helps the world go around, then when you look at your family, for example, and that little ecosystem and how people relate differently and can be unique, it starts to help, I think, improve relationships. That's one aspect to Human Design for sure.
I love that. And the difference though with Human Design is that unlike like a DISC assessment or a personality test that could potentially change over time, your chart is always the same no matter what because it's based off of your birthday. Yes.
And one example I heard somebody else say was even in this year that we've had the pandemic, the isolation, A lot of extroverts, and I would say including myself, have learned to be more of an introvert. They have been by themselves or had more alone time, less social time, and have adapted. Not that they've become complete introverts, but just that changes, I think, then your personality in a way. Um, you connect differently and, um, that may change. And, and when you start to do work around your limiting beliefs or how you're programmed and neurolinguistic or affirmations or anything that you're doing to try to shift your thought pattern, your mindset, that also changes. The energetic blueprint doesn't because that's what you were born with.
Okay, I actually— so this last weekend I went and had a girls trip to Nashville. And I can attest that a decade ago, even less than that, like, I don't know, probably up until like 4 or 3 years ago, or this weekend almost reiterated to me that I'm not the same, or I don't, I don't recharge the same way anymore as I used to. So all growing up, I felt like I would get energy from being in large crowds, music, dancing. Like, I would very much feel energized. And this weekend was like a test that I was like, oh, it's— I'm going to feel so energized by being in a crowd of people and listening to live music. And like, I don't know, just being this, this buzz of people. And it actually depleted my energy completely. And it— I was in shock because my whole life, really, I thought that being with people in a loud environment was something that I would use to recharge and to like fill my cup in a way. And so it was kind of surprising that that was definitely not what I needed to feel recharged and to actually take self-care. So self-care to me now looks different, like laying in bed with a good book and drinking a gallon of water. So I think that just like recognizing that and then utilizing all these tools to help, like, adjust. I don't know if that makes sense.
Yeah, that's such great awareness that you had. Really great. And it's a good example about going away and places that are perhaps crowded or, you know, more people than just being at home. So let me say, back to that energetic blueprint, when we have that, it doesn't mean we have this consistent energy and we're always the same way. It just means that we have certain places in our energy makeup where we actually either are sustained with our energy or absorb versus absorbing others' energy and those around us or those from our environment. So when you have a lot of what they call openness in Human Design, and as a projector you do, you can easily pick up other energy, especially if you're in crowds. I will say, I think when we're younger, we're more resilient to that, or we're just experimenting and we're kind of ebbing and flowing. When we start to move along in life, get wiser as well, and start to say, wait a second, I don't like how that feels, or I notice this is, this is what I'm feeling, or this feels off, or I'm, I'm getting more emotional. We just start to get more awareness, I think. I mean, there's certainly— when you're younger, you might have that, but as you start to do more of your own work, your, um, self-discovery, I think as you're older, you start to notice things like you just pointed out. And so for you, as you said, you really noticed how draining it can be. And for certain types in Human Design, you need downtime, you need alone time. Because you can pick up other energy and it's draining, draining you. I, I call it like a car battery. We, we have different size batteries and some types like a projector have a smaller size. So they also can't, don't have this long-term battery like a generator would. So they can deplete themselves and burn out and that can cause health issues and yada yada. But in reality, I think it's just the awareness of how to create self-care for yourself and make sure you're resting.
Like I said, yeah, that is great. So if somebody listening was interested in Human Design and they wanted to contact you, tell me— well, and even just like from my, my own experience with this is it was so nice to have you to help explain it because that chart looks extremely difficult. Like I pull it up and it's all like, to me, I was like, whoa, what is this? And what do, what does everything mean? So it was so helpful to have you there to walk me through it, teach me what it meant. So kind of talk about what you do for people who are interested in learning their type.
Definitely. Thank you. I will. I'll definitely, let me give an overview first. Um, your chart is sort of like the astrology chart. It's complex when you look at it. And if you have not studied this, you would really not be sure how to interpret it. So I think it's so important to work with somebody who has a Human Design background, um, to help you understand your chart. I like to really simplify it. I like to work with women who are busy, maybe feel overwhelmed, overworked, who are doing some personal development and really want take a look at this aspect to themselves that can just change their life. So when I do a session, I do actually two— a reading is two sessions so that we speak at two different times. There's a lot of information, so we go over a portion in the first session, and then in the second session, we, we cover the rest. And it gives you enough information to start to really make some changes for you to have more self-awareness. And we discuss what's going on in your life too. And I think that's important. You can do a lot of this on your own through the internet. There's a lot of great resources out there and people who teach Human Design, and I, I love to follow them and learn. But if you, if you don't have that conversation, I think, with somebody, then I think it's just a longer learning curve. Um, and I also think having conversations, um, with my clients, it just helps them to realize things. And in particular, how were they conditioned in their lives and their family lives that kind of layered on top of this design that they were encoded with? Um, so I will do Human Design readings I also, once you do a reading with me, have sharing circles where we meet regularly with small groups of other women to just talk about how is Human Design working in your life? What do you notice? How are you doing self-care? I have a virtual community on Facebook to help people with their self-care called Kristi Self-Care Tribe. And I also just launched a digital course. So if people do want to do some self-study, it's about an hour long. It's not very time-consuming. That's another place that I offer some education. I love to share, teach, and myself be a student. That sounds amazing.
I love it. I would highly recommend Human Design and learning your design. It— not that I'm like fully immersed in it yet, but even we did this, what, like 2 weeks ago? And it already has sparked so many questions and just made me more aware. Like, I really have Even just this last weekend, being able to be like, okay, how am I feeling energy-wise? Or maybe I do need to take a nap. And I actually did that because I know we talked about me like working and then maybe taking a little bit of a break to recharge. I felt so much better when I actually took that time to just rest, relax, unplug. And I was like, oh wow, I need to really start using this every day instead of just, you know, when I'm quote unquote on vacation. So yeah, I really truly think that this could be life-changing for some people. Even just— you just become more aware, I think, which is definitely all I want, I think, to, to live our life like the, the best that we can. And this is a tool, like you said, that, that can help you with that.
So, and I'll give two quick examples of some folks I recently worked with. This one woman In her business, this one woman, she had just spent a year revamping her business, putting out new programs. Um, she had launched this, um, program for her business where she just put her heart and soul into it, and she ended up with one person signing up for the program. I have a similar story. So she's a generator like me, and we try to make it happen. And she learned about Human Design, and she decided to take a 2-week kind of break. She leaned back, she worked less, she let herself get cared for by, you know, great dinners from her, from her husband, just resting more. And she kept doing business things, but she was just more relaxed. And what happened was she ended up getting an opportunity to teach to a group of people. And suddenly she also had, I think, 2 or 3 new signups for her program from people that she hadn't even reached out to. They found her. It was amazing. And she was just like, this has totally changed now how I'm doing my business. Wow. And the other example is a friend of mine who I've worked with, she started to look at how her two kids and her husband were programmed, or their energy blueprint, I should say. And she realized that she was making all the decisions in her family. And she have— she has two children who are projectors, have a lot of wisdom. And she decided, wait a second, let me start to ask them what they want. And just that simple shift in terms of the energy makeup and who they are versus what she does totally changed. Um, and she feels so much less stress as the mom in the family. So it just— two examples of like how Human Design can really shift your life. That is really awesome.
I'm so glad that you shared those. If people want to get in touch with you, what is the best way to contact you?
So I have a website, kristjsullivan.com, and I'm sure we can put it in the show notes.
