Your money beliefs usually come from your parents, not from you. The speaker argues you need to pick your own values, then work backward from the life you want to build. If you design it right, you won't need to retire.
Chapters
Why do I believe the things about the world that I believe? And where did that come from? Did I choose these beliefs or did I just inherit them from watching my parents? Maybe my dad was a freewheeling spender, so I just watched my dad do that and that's how I grew up. And subconsciously, in turn, that's how— that's what I do with money. But I never actually chose that for myself. Right. And so how do we start to go, what are my values? How do I want to live? Did I choose these for myself? Once we have a really solid value set, now we can start working backwards and create our life in the image of the thing and the life that we actually want to live. And that's where creating from power starts. So once I get really clear on what lights me up, what I value, and what I want my life to look like, now I can work backwards and reprogram into wealth, use my money to create that life. What's the next version of me? Who do I need to become in order to, you know, create a life that I never have to retire from?
