Our brain's only function is to keep us safe. So what happens when there's a bad situation? Well, let's think back to caveman times. If you're a caveman and you eat the red berries and the red berries make you sick, you don't eat the red berries anymore. Now we have a pattern imprinted on our brain. We see the red berries, we stay away. That is how our brain evolved. Our brains are pattern matching machines. When things happen to us in childhood, these patterns cement and then they run in the background in this subconscious loop that drives almost all of our decision-making. Right? We love to think that we're logical creatures, but actually we're only in charge of about 5% of our decisions, and 95% of what happens is all happening in the background.
