Is your fear of success stronger than your fear of failure? Most of us are familiar with the idea of fear of failure, but the more insidious cousin of fear of failure is actually fear of success. This is where we play small in order to make sure the people that round us are comfortable. So we'll allow ourselves to be successful, but just successful enough so that we don't upset that dynamic. When people see you becoming more successful, there is jealousy that starts to come up and we may start to feel ostracized from the group and therefore we may actually throw model and self-sabotage to make sure that we don't accept that dynamic. What we need to do is actually recognize when we're falling into that pattern and address those issues. Either say, hey, you know, maybe this friend group no longer serves me, or how can I address these things head-on with my family so that I feel comfortable taking it to that next level and making sure that I'm taking those people with me or allowing them to create a new dynamic that doesn't keep me from reaching the best version of myself.
