A recorded July 2024 YouTube talk (speaker: Nick Stumbo) critiquing traditional church responses to sexual struggle—"read your Bible more, pray more"—as over-reliant on willpower. The speaker positions Pure Desire as an existing resource and explains a collaboration with Barna to produce research intended to equip the church to restore relationships, build sexual health, and create a new generation walking in sexual health.
And we know that that tends to be the exact approach the church takes. Just read your Bible more, pray more, serve more, spend more quiet time. It's all willpower. I can, I will, I want. You know, there's all these different things that are a part of that, and I feel like that kind of information is really helpful to see that. We need a new approach. We need a new avenue to try to address this. And, you know, in some ways, we're over here at Pure Desire, kind of like, hi, been here the whole time. Help. Like, happy to help. This is our heart. Because really at the core of what we want to do and kind of going to why we did this study with Barna is our heartbeat is the church. We want to equip the body of Christ to be able to address this with confidence, knowing that we're going to restore relationships and restore communities and create really a new generation of people who are walking in sexual health. And I think that this Barna study is really going to help us do that.
