Nick Stumbo, speaking in a Pure Desire podcast excerpt, recounts being a young pastor who loved God but felt his faith was not producing real transformation. He tried praying, reading Scripture, and confessing to spiritually mature people, but those practices didn’t produce change. Desperate, he prayed for God to lead him to people and resources that could help, and he exhorts listeners to pray similarly and be open to help that may come from outside their expectations.

It was interesting for me, Trevor. I was, you know, a young pastor in a church, and I loved God and I really wanted to change, but the way I perceived my faith wasn't transforming me. I'll say it that way, because I don't ever want to validate the life, death and resurrection of Christ or who God is or the body of Christ. Sometimes I just think we have a distorted view, and some of that's our own brokenness, and some of that's just how it gets handed to us. So when my praying, reading the Bible, more confessing to people who I thought would really were significant, that I thought were spiritually mature to help me, when none of that stuff helped, I was really at a desperate place. And I said to God, could you lead me to people and resources that could help me? That was my prayer, and I would challenge anyone to listen. Make that your sincere prayer, but just be open to who God may lead you. It may be outside of your box.
